Need to plow before cultivation?
Looking at the grow map the purple means "Harvested" looking at the description of the plow it says something like "Used to plow the field to prepare for cultivation" You didn't need to in Farm Sim 15, will not plowing first have negative effects?

You dont need to do both. But if you have plowing needed (whatever it is called) on, you will have to plow after 3 harvestes. To keep max yield.

correct. And if you dont have it on then you just cultivate, then sow, then harvest and repeat.
Hope this helps

The fields will show red when they need plowing in that map - it adds an extra 10% fertilisation to the crop which affects yield.

When you go into the menu screen, on map screen cycle through until you see fertilize and plow...fertilize will be dark blue and plow will be in pink/red. I highly advise to get the pda mod when you need a quick look of what state your fields are and many other good features

I just plow everything. Whats the dif? The plow doesn't cost any more or take any longer and you know you can plant anything.

Hmmm. I really don't know what the dif. is from the plow and cultivator. That is a good question.

N difference. Cultivaters are just a lot easier to use, as you dont need to think about the extra lenght you need to go. and they can get bigger, i think long time sinced i played, and need less power?

in RL, you cannot sow directly over freshly plowed field, you have to cultivate first. farmers tend to plow only every third time, because it's time and power consuming. but it is necessary to keep the fertility.

in FS17, the new functionality of plowing every third time for 10% yield simulates this, though it is possible to sow directly over plowed field. still it's harder when you use ground response, the sowing machine will "jump" more when going directly over plowed field, a small sowing machine without cultivator part will produce gaps.

A plow takes the soil which is about 6-12in (15-30cm) below the surface and brings it to the top. It also takes the surface soil and places it below.

A cultivator breaks the soil down so it's less dense and clumpy. This makes it easier for water and nutrients to enter the soil as well as make it easier for the plant to push through the soil after germination.

That's the gist of it. Giants tries to emulate this to an extent but also tries to balance it so the tasks don't become mundane. They did pretty good in that regards I think.
