Why can't I find multiplayer game?

I just got my son his own computer and anther copy of farm sim 17 so we could play together but we can't find the multiplayer game we create on either computer? What is the problem? Both are running the latest 1.4 update. Needless to say, he's a bit dissappointed and so am I.

I know that. I create a multiplayer game on my computer and it does not show up on the search list on my son's computer. All the search parameters are the same, it just doesn't show up. I play multiplayer games all the time with a friend across town.

i got an empty server if you'd like to use it? no mods etc

Dave If You want i may help if you have skype you can ss on both computers and i can see what the problem Is :P

Make sure you both have up-to-date versions of the game. Make sure your firewall will allow the game through.

Also, you may need to open some ports on your router.

I would bet that it is a firewall being the issue, either on both computers or the router to outgoing traffic, as the game doesnt recognize lan per say, so the traffic needs to go from computer 1 -> steam master server -> compter 2.

I still can't figure this out. I'm not a computer guy at all. I'm a construction worker. I don't understand why its so hard to get this done. On both computers I can play with a friend across town on multiplayer. So obviously both computers are going from my house, to the steam server, to my friends house. Why the heck can neither of my computers play with each other? Doesn't make sense.

From what I have been able to find out is that you cannot run the dedicated server when you have purchased a copy of FS2017 from Steam. It attempts to load Steam 1st and that causes it to bomb out. I got my copy directly from Giants and it works fine.

Nah, a dedicated server is a server standing elsewhere and the clients connect to it. Dave just has to create a multiplayer game on one of his computers (this means he is the host), choose savegame and mods and then configure the session (name, password etc). On the other computer then just go multiplayer, join and choose the region you live in. The game should appear if you search with the correct settings.
