GTL still the only choice?
I am racing real life with touring car from the 70s. To increase my skills to setup the car, I'm looking for the best sim. Is GTL from 2005 the closest I get?

rFactor, 2007.
I have over 2000 cars, including skins, in GTL and it's still a great racing experience. Outside of Steam, there is PnG3, which is made for your era.and uses GTL cars on the GTR 2 platform.

What kind of car do you drive in your real races?

I suggest lookig at the vintage cars of Assetto Corsa. If theres a few cars there that suit your taste, I strongly recommend trying it out. It has really good physics and plenty of online tournaments.
AC doesn't have as much historic content in terms of tracks or cars as GTL, neither does RRE.

There's a Kadett B and C on Altbierbude.de and Race Department if that's any good to you.

I have the steam version of gtl after installing the old CD crashed my computer an F'd it up with that securom bs. anyways I cant tune out (on xbox ctrlr) the digital rapid steering even with a huge dead zone, 98% speed sensitivity, and 0 steering sensitivity. it just does nuthin!. I can adjust in Race 07 and all the add-ons, the settings are there I use in other games, but just doesnt do anything. I dont think adjustment was ported over to the steam game, I dont know..

I use different setups and slighlty different driving styles and techniques depending on the game I'm playing. I use different setups in Netkar Pro compared to rFactor compared to iRacing compared to Assetto Corsa compared to Live for Speed and so on.

Depending on the physics engine but also on the individual car physics modelling, identical cars in different games will require different driving styles and setups.

Basically what I'm saying is that simracing games will only help a little with setup because you will require a different setup and driving technique depending on which game you play.

You're kidding right? AC has hundreds of classic car mods and tracks. Some very good ones include the full set of GPL cars and a lot, lot more.

How did you get 2000 cars? I have 125 max in game available by using a hack on game as too tough to win a lot for me. I only use SPlayer.
