according to facebook, that game and company are dead. think i'm gonna ask for a refund, and post an adequate review. sad, because i really wanted to give that game a try

The company is not "dead". After they came out of bankruptcy they restructured, and are now known as Sector3. As for the game, it's nearly fifteen years old. Support wasn't going to last forever.

If you're running it on a lap top rather than a desktop, then that might be creating problems. One thing you can try is installing the game outside of the Program Files directory and run everything as an Admin. That often helps. You can also try the Ntcore patch, which will help the game utilize up to 4gigs of memory.

http://ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php

And as always update your video card drivers. Honestly, the game right now is on sale for $4.00, so it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to ask for refund. You might as well hang on to it for a while, and keep working on it.

thx for the help but it doesn't work. i don't care if the game is 20 years old, or if there was a bankrupcy, or something. only thing i see it's that the game is being sold here on Steam, and that lot of people are having the same problems. i spent 3 days searching for a fix. the link of the Steam page to site, or support are dead, which is unacceptable. i really wanted to play that game. but i'm very close from the refund right now

You say you don't care if it's a twenty year old game, but seriously the world moves on, and finding out why some of these games sold on Steam are so cheap. They are what amounts to "abandonware", no different than the games you'd find in the bargain bin at Staples that you'd walk right past, and not give a second thought. The idea of "this is going to last forever as long as I can turn on the power" is a fallacy.

I don't think "alot of people are having the same problems". All you're seeing are those who are coming here, and saying "My game doesn't work, please help". Nobody is going to come here and say "OMG!! My gam iz wurkn purfuctly!!! Plz don hlp!!". And in the what half hour between my post and your reply I seriously doubt you've tried all possible avenues that I've suggested.

Nogripracing used to have a community full of very knowledgeable people who'd help community members, however the site is currently offline. You might want to try RaceDepartment.com, the members there are very helpful.

The only thing is you will have to do your part. If someone offers a suggestion and directions on how to do it, give it a try. Don't just throw your hands up and say "oh, it won't work". Keep trying. And when all else fails uninstall and then re-install the game.

the thing is i didn't wait for you to try all what you said. and i have other very old games installed that work perfectly. i m' pretty sure that if i call Steam and tell them the devs are no more offering support, and the game is broken, it will be removed. because it's.. just basic commercial rule. i'll maybe check that gamedepartment thing later, though i'm not really motivated anymore. Thx anyways

My Game works under Windows 10 x64 like a charme.
GTX780 newest Drivers and i still use the Admin Profile.
In the win Options i choosed auto select for DX and did only configurated the resolution.
Such a nice Racing game for 1 fu €, because all these crying PPL smashed the price....

yeah sounds a nice game, but there's no support anymore. it would have helped. can't play = refund. anyways i bought Assetto Corsa instead which was on sale too. and i discovered an amazing game. probably would have never done so, if i could have played GTL, so.. :steamhappy:

Today I also tried to get the game working under Windows 10. My solution is to use the compatibilty mode set to Windows 7 for GTL.exe and GTLConfig.exe. Maybe you also have to set "run as Administrator". But after I could run the game, I could also disable the "run as Administrator" and it still works. Sorry if my english is not perfect. Please ask if you have questions. And I don't have this 4G patch.

thx for the help guys. if the devs patch it. maybe i'll consider buying it again during a sale

None of the other compatibility modes worked for me. Running it as administrator did not work either.

I set GTL.exe to run in "Windows 98/Windows Me" compatibility mode and the game started!. Setting compatibility mode to Windows 95 also worked.

I had a similar problem with crashing on startup and it worked after I changed the Direct x version from auto to one of the older versions. I guess the auto detect isn't compatible with my vid card / drivers. Guess the game is too old to recognize some newer cards properly.

i went into my geforce panel and set the .exe's to use the high performance card. as well as setting compatibility to Wxp sp2. started ok even at 1080
