Unable to launch the game
Hi! Despite several attempts with compatibility modes, direct x versions and administrator privileges I can't launch the game.

The config thing keeps popping up. I tried to launch from both steam and from the game directory. I tried to set all .exe to run as admin with compatibility modes from windows 95 to windows 7.

Also my main graphic card isn't appearing in the config window, only the integrated chipset does(I want to play it on a laptop as you have probably guessed, main card is an nVidia 840m and the driver is up to date)

Is there anything left to try?

I was able to get it to run by going to the exe and setting it to windows xp service pack 3 compatibility mode.

For me i had to lower the antialiasing settings from 6 to 4 to run the game. Give it a try.

On the rare occasion GTL doesn't load, verification will download 3 files. Works every time, (for me).

Doesn't work for me. I turned off antialiasing, checked the files, it had to download 3 files, then it still won't boot.

I was getting the same problem until recently, when I did this:

1) Verify game files on steam. This should (re-)download three files.
2) Change the settings for the GTL.exe and GTLConfig files to compatibility with Windows 7 and set both to run as administrator.
3) Change the settings on your graphic card for it to specifically select GTL. For me, this was NVIDIA Control Panel > Program Settings, then select and add GT Legends. This also works for multiple installs, just make sure you do this separately for each one.

I suspect it was the third step that made the difference for me as I had tried adjusting compatibility and running as administrator before without success.

Hope this helps.

Try to launch Steam as administrator.

Locate the steam.exe file and check the flag "Run as administrator" in compatibility tab. Fully close Steam, start it and try again.

Ill also add here that I was also trying to run GTR from simbin as well last and on modern machines it has a insufficient video memory error on launch. This is solved by the instructions here from pcgamingwiki.com, my go to for getting old games running on new machines.

https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/GTR_-_FIA_GT_Racing_Game#Issues_fixed

On a whim when my GTL didnt start today, I tried the instructions in the guide for GTR and it started just now without issue.

I have no info on the longevity of this fix, but just now, it solved my no start issue.

Hope this helps.
