Do I need tohave played LoZ to get it?
I have never played a LoZ game... ever.

But I've seen footage of the oldies enough to tell this is similar. Maybe even inspired.

Point is, is this meant exclusively for LoZ players, or can us filthy casuals pick it up and play it? Are there tutorials?

You should really play at least the hits of LoZ at some point. But no, you don't need to have played them to play this game. LoZ and games like it are casual games. This game is most akin to the Gameboy LoZ games IMHO. Link'a Awakening, Oracale of Time/Seasons, and my personal favorite, GBA's The Minish Cap.

Let's put it this way, if you kinda like this game, you're gonna love LoZ games.

I felt it's similar to classic Zelda more than LoA/OoS, especially since there's an extensive overworld and a lot of it is optional. The dungeons are the highlight but the exploration doesn't feel as polished as those handheld Zelda titles. Overall I feel those offer a bit more variety than Blossom Tales as exploration can feel repetitive.
