Diluvion 1.2
Hey guys, this thread is to discuss changes we have planned for our big update version 1.2.

There's quite a few quality of life changes (including more solid save data), but the key here is we're revising the mechanics. We've received a TON of feedback since launch, and we've had a lot of discussions as to how the game can improve.

Here's the design doc[imgur.com] for the revisions.
In general though, we're focusing on improving the following aspects of the game.

Variety in salvaging
After salvaging for a while, it can start to get repetative. We're introducing three new events that can happen when you dock to a salvage. For more info on these, check out the design doc.
  • Airlock blasting
  • Sailor looting
  • Scrapping

Navigation
We're refactoring the navigation system to be more robust, give clearer direction, and be more integrated with the map. Discovered landmarks will show a radius on your map, which can expose your position on the map when you're within that radius. This also shows a clear progression of your exploration on the map.

Sub Upgrades & Customization
Subs will upgrade their stats via upgrade slots where upgrades can be installed and upgrade HP, max crew, engine power, depth, and more. Actually upgrading your chassis (from Iron Minnow to Lionfish, for example) will no longer increase the sub's base stats (HP, max crew, etc) but instead will add more upgrade slots.

Let's say, for example, you have an Iron Minnow with 4 slots, each with an upgrade installed. (2 depth, 1 HP, and 1 crew size). When upgrading to a Lionfish, you'll still have those upgrades installed, but now you'll have 8 more slots to upgrade. (The numbers in this case are arbitrary)
We're also adding the ability to swap out specific stations in your sub, which opens the path for new stations to be added in future updates.

Something important for us in this upgrade is that it doesn't ruin old save files. If you update to 1.2 with a previous save file, the system will install upgrades automatically to approximate what the sub's previous stats were. Of course, if you want to customize them, you can dismantle an upgrade and free up a slot.

This is what we've been working on for the past few weeks, and it'll be a while still before it's ready, but we'd love to hear what you think!

Sound good to me ... looking forward to it. Enjoy
Sounds like great updates to make your already good game even better. you have my support, and i definitly will buy future dlc to show that support
The upgrades are a really neat idea, can't wait to try it out! :) On paper the changes in the Navigation System seem interesting, but I can't be sure without trying them.

Very much looking forward to it as well.
I know it may be still too early to ask but with this update might there be any new subs? Just curious

This update mostly addresses gameplay, stability, and replayability issues. As far as new content, our plan is to release new sub skins in the next couple of months in between now and this update. More significantly though, we're working on a comprehensive content pack to be released soon after this gameplay update. Pretty exciting changes incoming!

This looks wonderful :)
This all looks awesome. I love it when a developer continues to support, balance and add content after launch, very much looking foward to this.

Will the sub changes cover the Manta as well? I've been using it for the whole game thus far, and was incredibly disappointed to find out that it doesn't upgrade to full depth like the other subs, meaning I was forced to go back and farm up materials to upgrade and use a starter sub that I'd rather not.

I certainly hope so. I didn't pilot the bonus subs for very long at all because I knew they'd become obsolete.
I'm looking forward to the targeting / sonar improvements
I'd caution against having depth be an upgrade that takes up slots. Since depth progression is vital to story progression (and each area starts deeper and deeper) they're gonna be nigh-mandatory. A must-make choice is equal to no choice, so it's gonna be frustrating when those upgrades "lock out" other options.

@Mr. Peanutbutter: Yup, the change will cover all subs.

@Reverend mort: We're still working on the slot upgrade system and how depth upgrades correlate to it. I hear you in regards to those depth slots being frustratingly obligatory, so we'll see what we can do to solve this issue.
