How do you control the golf ball after activating the remote control power up?
This is for people who are new to the game and haven’t played Planet Mingolf on the PS3. It is also for me to find an answer to my question about the remote control power up.

One of the power ups in the game is a remote control. When it is activated you take over control of the ball and sort of drive it around the hole/course until you run out of power. Well that is what you do in Planet Minigolf. In Infinite Minigolf I cannot work out how to control the golf ball once the remote control power up is activated. The ball runs out of power very quickly.

I may be wrong but I think in Planet Minigolf when you activated the remote control icon the control of the golf ball was done by the sixaxis tilt function/gyroscope in the PS3 controller.

Anyway in Planet Mingolf controlling the golf ball when you have the remote control power up is pretty easy. You don't use any buttons or other controls on the PS3 controller. You steer the ball by steering the PS3 controller. Also when you are slowing down you can get more speed by shaking the controller in a kind of up and down motion. I again assume the sixaxis tilt function/gyroscope has something to do with this being possible

I guess as the x-box controller don’t have a six axis tilt function/gyroscope like the PS3 controller the way the golf ball is controlled once the remote control power up is activated cannot be done the same way as with Planet Minigolf. Or am I wrong about this? Does the xbox controller have the 6 axis tilt function like the PS3 controller?

Can somebody from the development team please explain how you control the ball in Infinite Minigolf after you activate the remote control power up. Also can you also say how you stop it running out of power so quickly and if there is a way to make it speed up again like in Planet Minigolf. At the moment when I activate the remote control power up I can steer the golf ball but it runs out of power after about 2 – 5 seconds.

You can control the ball why using the Control powerup with the left stick (or by moving the mouse). You can control the ball until it stops. Unlike Planet Minigolf, you can even continue controlling the ball after you have collected and activated other powerups. That makes possible some interesting uses, like controlling the ball while it's flying or boosting the ball while in control mode, extending the distance you can roll.

I have had another go of using the remote control power up. I created a quick course to test it out. Unless I am dong something wrong it seems even with a full power shot you can only drive the ball for about 6 - 8 seconds. In Planet Minigolf you could drive it a lot longer and also when it was losing power you could use/shake the ps3 controller to regain speed.

Is about 6 - 8 seconds the longest you can drive the ball for or am I doing something wrong?

It very much depends on the course layout and the powerups you may pick up en route. But on a plain surface, without collecting a boost powerup or using a boosting field the ball will eventually slow down within a few seconds, yes.

Wow. Can that be changed to be more like the Planet Minigolf? It's not good that ball stops after a few seconds of controlling it. I much prefer to how the remote control power up works in Planet Mingolf to Inifnite Minigolf.

I realise that because the xbox controller doesn't have the sixaxis tilt function/gyroscope like the PS3 controller has you cannot give us the function to shake the controller to regain speed. Surely you can program the remote control power up to last longer 5 - 8 seconds like it currently does in Infinite Minigolf?

What is a boosting field and how are they used?

Also if you compare the remote control power up in Planet Minigolf v Infinite Minigolf it moves much faster in Planet Minigolf.

The control powerup lasts until the ball stops due to friction in both games. It can be true that friction is slightly higher in Infinite Minigolf (however, I must mention that friction was different in certain themes in Planet Minigolf, for example, it was very low on the icy surfaces of Polar Station). Later themes may introduce tiles with lower friction that will fit you more - winter is coming anyway :)

Boosting fields are white areas on the floor with arrows, those can give you extra speed.

The way you could have made the ball speed up by shaking the controller in Planet Minigolf while in control mode was not intended, it was a bug - however, we left it there as kind of an easter egg as we had found it funny. Still, it could somewhat break the game, allowing players to extend their turn for a painfully long time, which was not very good in multiplayer.
