As a fan of the series who has played every single game in the franchise I had high expectations from this game since it's like a closure to Umbrella saga. I can confidently say that the game surpassed all my expectations, there are things I love and some things I don't like about the game. I'll start with what I love. Also want to point out that there will be *spoilers* in this review so beware.

First, as a more of a survival horror RE fan I loved Grace's gameplay. Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center was very tense and so fun to explore. The zombies in this game keep some of their habits from their past lives and I love this idea and I also love how it was implemented in the game. There are zombies who hate noise who were patients, singer zombies, zombies that try and keep lights closed and maids who still try and clean the place while making a bloody mess lol. And they get angry when you kill a zombie near them thinking you made a mess that they have to clean. These kind of interactions with zombies are so funny and also unsettling. There are some bigger threats like the chef, chunk and the girl. And taking out these zombies don't mean they're gone. They can mutate into Blister Heads and trust me you don't want that. You can stop this mutation by using a Hemolytic Injector. This whole section was survival horror perfected for me. What I don't like about RHCCC is that I think the puzzles were way too linear. Everytime you find a key item you know where to use it and everytime you find something that needs some kind of passcode it won't take long to find it. I'm not saying that it should be so cryptic that you get stuck for hours but it could be more challenging than this. I also played on classic difficulty on my first run and I love the new mechanic where you have to craft ink ribbons with your resources, it adds a lot to the item management.

Then there is Leon's sections and I also loved those. Before I start I want to point out that there are *spoilers* in this section of the review so be warned. The gameplay is basically RE4R but better. It's not so over the top like RE6. Exploring the ruined Raccoon City was a dream come true for me. I loved every second of it, finding easter eggs here and there was so fun and interesting. Right after entering Raccoon City we are welcomed by a giant spider that was missing from RE2R and from that moment I knew that so many more fan services were waiting for me in the city and I was right. From that point on the game literally throws so many fan service stuff in your face. Mr.X, HUNK, Plant 43, RPD, Kendo, Lickers, Nemesis, clone of Albert Wesker and as a fan of the series all of these made me excited like a little kid but the thing is these all happen too fast and feels rushed. Mr. X comes chases you for a few minutes then there is a boss fight and he's gone, Hunk comes to stop Leon has a fight with him and dies in a few minutes, you go through a cave and there is Plant 43 in there and dies a few minutes later. I wish these battles lasted longer and felt more fleshed out.I dont think Raccoon City's potential was wasted at all but it could have been better

The Graphics are amazing and optimization is fantastic I love RE engine for that. In an era of gaming where every game has an issue with optimization this game feels like fresh air. Gameplay is so smooth and fun on both characters and animations are also really good. I've heard there are small bugs here and there but never happened to me so the game was very polished in my experience.

I also loved the lore in the game. Learning the secret behind Raccoon City, what it had to do with Grace, what Elpis is and learning more about The Connections made me so excited. Some details in the story could have been executed better but still it's not so bad.

The game is very replayable. With extra weapons, costumes, upgrades and challenges it gives you reasons to replay the game. Took me around 19 hours on my first playthrough but I took my time a lot. From what i've heard it's around 10-15 hours for most people which is enough with lots of replayability the game offers. The voice acting is also really good especially I loved Grace's voice acting.

Overall, I loved every second I had playing this game and will be replaying it a lot over the coming days. If I have to rate the game I would give it a solid 96. It's one of the best if not the best Resident Evil game that came out since Code Veronica in my opinion.

The story intro does not really make sense. Yeah, so Grace, you have been traumatized by your mother's murder in front of your eyes, you spent 8 years alone in that terrifying hotel, so why don't you go there ALONE again? lmao.

Man, I am so sick of Leon. Yes, he is extremely cool and good-looking. But other than that, he is just so boring. He is not human; he does not have emotions. The writing of Leon is pretty weak once again. Leon has to die so that maybe Capcom will actually try to write better and more interesting characters. Just like Ichiban taking over from Kiryu in Yakuza 7.

Grace, on the other hand, showed potential, but her story and display were underwhelming at the end. Acting is great, though. Grace's actor did a great job.

The villains are classic Resident Evil villains, maybe even worse. They are very underdeveloped and cringe. Neither the story nor the narrative is good, but that is not a problem. I have always been here for the other stuff when it comes to Resident Evil, and those parts are mostly great. Both RE7 and Village had way better narratives and presentation.


Path tracing in the game looks blurry and noisy, and there is a constant film grain in the game that you cannot turn off. I later installed a mod to disable it, and it looked way better.
Other than that, the game looks amazing. One of the best visuals in gaming right now.


The first half of the game is phenomenal. The game design, the structural design of the care center, the puzzles, the zombies and their placements, the bosses (the girl & chunk), how everything is presented to you, how every mechanic is taught to the player, the tempo, the map design, the zombies and their minor personalities, everything there is to say, just incredible.


But for some reason, recent Resident Evil games have a drop in quality in the latter half of the experience. Resident Evil 7, 2, and now 9. In RE7, everyone talks about how amazing the experience you spend in the house is, but no one talks about the yacht chapter and the rest of the game, because it really gets boring after that.

Resident Evil Requiem has the same issue once again.

Do not get me wrong, Leon's parts are not bad. In fact, they are good. I mean, Leon's gameplay is built on Resident Evil 4, even to this day. How can a chapter built upon one of the best games of all time be bad? It is okay.

But it is mostly nothing new and empty compared to the meticulously refined Grace half. I do not know why nobody talks about this issue in Resident Evil games, but it is a serious problem. Overall, Resident Evil Village is a better game for me.


Leon's parts are just so empty and forgettable. When people look back and think about this game in the future, they will talk about Grace's parts, because nothing remarkable happens in Leon's parts.

Raccoon City is atmospherically very weak and very empty.
Now, do not tell me how a post-apocalyptic world is supposed to feel, atmospheric or not empty. That is when you have to look at games like Death Stranding, Stalker, The Last of Us, Dark Souls, or Dying Light for the answer. The list just goes on.

Instead, they went with nostalgia bait for Leon parts. We have to extend the game time, so why don't we let him go to RPD once more? It is low effort for us. The encounter designs are very generic. Leon's sections just feel very low effort, just to extend the game time.

I am not saying it is not good. It just does not have the special sauce that Resident Evil 4 had. It is just soulless. Even the graphics don't look that good in Racoon City; it's such a downgrade. Leon's parts were not very fun for me.

In Resident Evil games, I do not remember any remarkable music, except for The Drive and Save Room theme, Serenity from Resident Evil 4, and Saudade from Resident Evil 2. But here, just none. Capcom needs to realize how important music is, even in horror games, to raise the experience to another level. Horror games do not have to be fully silent.


The lack of true boss fights in this game is really sad. There is not one new boss in Leon that is not scripted, except the final boss, which is bad. Mr. X is literally the same thing again. Resident Evil Village was way more remarkable, original and better when it comes to boss fights. They are very bad in Requiem.


Resident Evil Requiem is a great experience, especially the first half. But the second half and the final boss really left a bad taste in my mouth because of it’s forgettable and bland, low effort design. I really expect more from Capcom, since every new major release from them takes 5 years, and that is a lot of time. I know they can do it; they have proved that countless times.

They are still the number one company when it comes to releasing high-quality games, all with new and multiple IPs that are all above a bar of quality. There is not a single studio at the time doing what Capcom is doing in that regard. Looking forward to more remakes on the Resident Evil side, and new games like PRAGMATA and Onimusha to come!
