Motel key despawned?

I had my wallet and Motel Key in my hand, I reentered my Jalopy to put wallet back and that caused me to also drop the Motel Key. I have looked all around for it and it seems to just be gone forever.

Resurrecting this post cus I just had the same thing happen to me--lost motel key when I entered the car--which was also because I wanted to put my wallet away in the glovebox. Seems like that's at least a semi-common impulse.

When the motel key disappeared I dealt with it by hitting ESC -> "Return Home," which resets your trip progress but at least it retains your trunk inventory/the money I made off people in the motel.

Still, while it's not going to happen to me again, cus I know about it now, it's a huge pain in the ass for a new player. I mean, I get that nobody without big patience for bugs and jank is even playing a game called "Jalopy" in the first place, but all the same, the amount of crippling bugs is a little *too* thematically appropriate.

Hope this gets fixed, cus I do like this game, and I wanna be able to recommend it, but if I have to keep adding, "it's still buggy tho," my recommendations don't add up to ♥♥♥♥.

the games development is over. the dev got screwed over by the publisher. and no longer has access to the game, so it got released in an unfinished state :(
