Store won't open

I got stuck with no money to afford fuel so I restarted and now the gates on the shops are all permanently closed

Which stores? If it's the gas stations on the road, or the Outershops in town, then it might be a bug, I don't think those should ever be closed anymore. If it's the yard with half of a car in front of it, that's a scrapyard and not a store, you need to open the gate by completing the engine. If you mean the store at home, that one is always closed, but you get a 10 litre fuel can in the garage every time you return back home.

Because economy doesn't load until map change (at least for full Yugo, not the beta branch) stores stay closed when you load up a save to prevent people saving and loading multiple times to buy alcohol for low and sell for high, making too much cash in too short a time.

That's true, I forgot, I was only thinking about the beta branch. In that case, the only way to progress is, I assume, to return home and fuel up there.

Why can't they just change the way the pricing of items works so they can't exploit it that way? I got so far that driving home would be just the same as fully restarting.
