I killed the Overmind. What's that?

Overminds are rulers of the Hive. Since the Hive can attack only within a certain range from a nearest overmind killing one reduces the Hive threat.

Is there a similar effect to taking another Empire's Capital?

Cause so far I haven't noticed anything major. Or is it something subtler like a diplomacy based bonus?

Chris said there currently is no difference whether you take a capital or not. No special effect.

I'm working on this for the next version. Probably you will be getting different audience options during ambassador visit if you control their capital. Or something else :)
