Local co-op? :<
I really hope you guys plan to make actual co-op. This looks like one of those games that would be a shame to have to play solo; most people don't do local co-op anymore.

Lol, if you read the pinned discussion at the top of the forum the game dev said: "Wizard of Legend currently supports local cooperative and PvP play for two players".

And to make it a lot better there will be controller support so you may play with M+K and your mate with another device. Yeah, good stuff.

Hey Dronnol,

We'd love to do online co-op, but it's a bit of a risk for such a small developer like us. If the game does well or if the upcoming Kickstarter brings in enough funds, there's a good likely-hood of us adding the feature in. For now though, we're just a 2 person studio and don't want to promise too much so that we can get the game out into people's hands. Hope that makes sense and if you have any other questions, please let us know!
Ah. That's understandable. Either way, good work! I'm hoping things do pan out for you like that.

Just saw this thread after a story in PC Gamer. With respect, I think it's a much bigger risk for you *not* to do online coop. That's a huge selling feature. I know that I'll buy the game if it has this, but will take a pass if it does not. Good luck.

Personally really glad for local multiplayer, so thank you devs! Never have to worry about not being able to play.

I'd say focus on getting it out, then you can look into adding Peer 2 Peer connection later

Its a bit of a risk to add online co-op?

What?

Is that just a clever way of saying the team lacks the programming know how to do it? No fault if thats the case. However, online co-op will add nothing but more money in your pockets if you add it. If the team knows how to do it, not doing seems like its a bigger risk, as it will cost you a lot of potential sales.

For me, a co-op game without online co-op = 100% No Buy. I have no desire to play it solo, and being a PC gamer, anyone and everyone I play with is online, not sitting next to me at my desk.

If they aren't confident that they will be able to do it well enough then it would definitely be ill-advised to add it for release. If it's a feature on release and it doesn't work well then suddenly the game slips into the mixed reviews territory on steam and hurts their sales overall. Most people aren't as pro-active as you might hope when researching games, many would see the "mixed" tag and pass it over immediately. Others will review the game and give it a thumbs down because netplay is extremely important to them or if the netplay inconvenienced them in any way again that's a thumbs down with a trolly meme review.

It adds signficantly to development time and cost. For an indie game, added sales may not make up that difference. We're not talking a multimillion dollar AAA title, here, with a huge advertising campaing and expecting to sell in the millions. It's all about sales volume and return on investment. If the loss in sales revenue is less than the cost to implement, it's not worth it, and that's a risk with any indie title. Any fast paced action game like this is going to require a certain standard for the online, which can be difficult to pull off quickly, especally with a small crew.

I'm really looking forward to online co-op, please take it as consideration

I'm actually really grateful for its local coop, as most devs often ignore coop option altogether. Even though online coop would be awesome, I'm aware it's a real challenge to be properly implemented and furthermore to cover its costs.

To anyone interested in online coop, feel free to try Parsec Gaming:

I just did Wulverblade and Tesla vs Lovecraft sessions with a friend, and he played normally with no delay at all. Both of those games are also local coop only.

I think a 5Mbp upload is required for smooth gameplay for the host, though. If you meet the criteria, I'd recommend you guys trying out a local game you own first. If you're happy with the result, one of you can buy the game (once its released, of course) and both play.

its a huge risk not doing online co op...I just added this to my wish list but I am going to pass now.

It's not a huge risk. You're talking about a niche indie title, not the next AAA from Rockstar. It's a bigger risk to spend the time and money implementing online functionality in a game that's not likely to bring in much, if any, profit.

I find the complete opposite sentiment to be the truth. My group of friends is always looking for local co-op games rather than online. We want to play together but don't want to have to buy 4 copies of the exact same game that we might not even like.
