Does this game have an end?
I typically don't like rougelikes because you play them over and over and there's not really an ending.

I would like to play a game that has an ending even if you have to start over so long as you're progressing the story.

Does Wizard of Legend have a story that progresses to a game end or is it like Binding of Issac?

EDIT: Does this game have a set of goals you complete to an end-game where you can consider the game "done" and never play it again similar to Dicey Dungeons.

It's a videogame not a movie or book.

Thanks for the comments, but they completely failed to answer my question.

Dicey Dungeons can be beaten. Is this game like that?

Yes there is.

Uh so this is the problem with me playing too many roguelikes.

I have 2 hours into this game but i think i found a pretty lucky build or something

*Semi-Spoilers*

I finished through the entire thing, i THINK at least, i do not know yet if there are expanded areas or secret bosses.

So the story isn't that grand or anything. You wake up in a museum and attempt to go through something everyone could not do, the Chaos Trial, you partake in a set of 3 stages (with 3 levels each, 2 normal ones and 1 with a boss) each containing a boss of a different element, definitely reminding me of Avatar the Last Airbender in terms of setting. I would warn you that each boss summons a set of deadly attacks on you which i did not expect, and that is talking in puns related to their elemental affinity ("I hope you keep your head COOL", "Ah i see you made it, i see your focus is very GROUNDED to reach this far")

It does have an ending and a final boss, it even celebrates you finishing the game and all that. And yes, once you finish the final boss, you get new spells and things and you can do the game again (it even has NPC's that can spice your runs).

Very creative, and i think a bit easy but then again i eat roguelikes for breakfast and i do think i found a lucky set of spells or something.

There is no specific story progression though, there aren't comprehensive dialogues about the lore or unlockables that advances the story, it shows you right from the start where you need to go, and you just advance until you finish. Of course this is only me talking with 2 hours of experience, there's probably more to it.

Also binding of isaac had a pretty subtle and great storyline, the thing is that the entire game, from all the items to characters, to levels and bosses, are all symbolism manifested throughout Isaac's brief moment of duress and anxiety as he ran from his mom and locked himself in a chest, with quite a very bittersweet ending. I'd reckon Isaac has a more intricate story than Wizard of Legend.

I appreciate your detailed response. It helps me think of games like these in a slightly different light. You're right, Issac did have a story so my initial post's question isn't asking what I'm really after.

I'm actually looking for a set of goals to complete where I can "beat" the game and stop playing. A lot of people play rougelikes to play different runs over and over again. I don't like that kind of repetition unless there's an end-goal to "finish" the game.

Since this game gives you even more to play with, but not really a New Game+ mode, it's showing me that the goal is to keep playing runs. That's counter to the kind of rougelike I'd fine have fun playing :/.

Doesn't mean the game's bad or people are wrong for liking it, just means it's not the kind of game I'd want to invest large amounts of time into.

It doesn't have an end in that regard.

It takes around 20 hours to achieve all steam achievements for this game. If you're not interested in doing more runs and maybe playing co-op afterwards just for entertainment, you should probably pass this game up. Most of my time after 100% completion has been cause of a friend coming over to play versus mode with me. Like you, I usually need a goal to keep on playing.

I will say that while this roguelike was on the easier side, I really enjoyed it while it lasted, and versus mode is great for some more challenging fights. You could give it a go for those less than 2 hours and find out if you feel like the gameplay is great enough to "justify" the 20 hours of content. I do believe it is.

No story, I'd like to see one too. It would be amazing. However you do get an "end" when you manage to beat the game.

basically, beat game, use other builds to build up crystals, buy all artifacts, robes, spells, then do like boss rush make sure you get all achievements then you could technically say its beaten since youve done everything offered
