Cursed relics not worth it
By and large I have no idea what a large portion of the cursed relics do, because honestly I find that they generally are not worth the trouble. Double trouble being pretty much the only exception since on a high armor cloak/build the damage taken is managable while giving you double damage to dish out.

Maybe if we had descriptions on what we were buying BEFORE you bought like most games would give you so you could make intelligent decisions this wouldn't be true. But picking up a cursed object will generally be the end of a run shortly after since it screws your gameplay so much and you probably weren't built to take it's downside. However while some of the normal relics won't be useful to your current build, generally they won't do things like reduce your health or incrase your damage taken while making your rocket uncrontrollably as you dash or make you move like a snail.

If anything feels half baked in this game, it's the cursed relics, by far.

I dunno. Items work like this in pretty much every roguelite. At first you just pick em up to find out what they do.

Some of them are better than others. If you want to spoil yourself just check the wiki.

Armor of Greed/Envy, Crimson Clover, Volatile Gemstone, Double Trouble/Toil, Broken Plaque Flask, Golden Saber of Envy, Paronomasicon, Anchor of Burden.

Those are all amazing. Considering there are 27 cursed items and I listed 11 that I can think off right now, this is pretty good.
Every run I do has at least one of those said items + there are more that I just can't think of right now.

I wouldn't say they are half baked, they are just exactly what they are, cursed items.

The only cursed relic that seems to truely absolute garbage is Overpriced Insurance.

Even if you're on the final stage before the final boss fights somehow with 700 gold that you have nothing to spend on and you have Overpriced Insurance as an option, it will only heal you for a bonus of 28 health.

My dude, Flashy Boots all the way. You get three insanely fast dodges for the low low price of halved regular movement speed. It's totally worth it, the dodges are really fast so you can still dodge, shoot spells and dodge the incoming damage.

Totally agree. The amount of healing provided just makes no sense.
Every Cursed Relic is situational*.
example: Alchemist's Stone is best if you've unlocked everything and have a ton of gems to spare, but is bad early-on because it slows the meta-progression.
example 2: Crimson Clover is pretty risky, especially in regards to the Rogues(they have a higher crit-rate than most other enemies, or at least they seem to), but if you can get Puffy Parka(evade all crits) it becomes insanely good.

There are some that are less useful though.
example: Stanza of Flame generally isn't ever worth it unless you already possess the Stanza of Frost. Yes, if you are passed Freya already its usually fine, but you still have to deal with Sura's Frost Fan and Aqua Beam++.

*Except for Overpriced Insurance, which is basically never worth it, even if you have the Midas relics.

Any lightning basic arcana + double bladed cestus is pretty good too.

Also the usual, early tiny crocodile, volatile gemstone, vampire fangs, glass cannon to name a few.

I do miss the fact that in some runs they simply don't appear :(

I had the same impression at the start. But they really grew on my. In the beginning though when you don't know what any of them do. They totally screw you over.

So basically, it's just for people who want an extra gamble or challenge.

crimson clover + awe cloak + dark katana + assassin's blade, any dongeon / boss will be a breeze

all of the relics that lower your health but boost dmg are amazing on a pride run. plus the one that makes your arcanas not have a countdown at low health is OP

I think this game often gets certain complaints because it offers a lot of different playstyles. Cursed relics aren't really my style, but I see a lot of people posting in the threads about how much they enjoy them. So it's clear that each have things that float their boat. I have some things I like that I've also seen other people say they hate, and I'd hate for them to "fix" them.

Overpriced Insurance does need a buff though. As someone mentioned earlier, having several hundred spare gold at the end of the level will only heal you about as much a single heal orb, which is completely unreasonable.
Silver Top is another one I consider underpowered(that movement down is too much), but it is the only relic that I can think of that increases activation speed, so I don't consider it as bad as Overpriced Insurance.

combine with silver spinning top and the evaading zephyr arcana and you're in for a fun, cheesy time.

To be clear, though, I'm not saying everyone who complains about the game complains for the reasons I said in my post. I think there are definitely some issues that fixing or balance that could use tweaking (like OI, which I also agree is useless). I'm saying that the variety of playstyles is why you get blanket statements like "cursed relics aren't worth it" or "the game must have i-frames" or "the earth boss is broken."
