yeah.. 100% true.. its more or less even guaranteed because there's a complete edition out now with the main game and the addon.. complete for heroes always meant they are done with it.. always
maybe some of you remember heroes5.. there was the gold edition with the first addon and then later the complete edition with the second addon and that was it :D
That's not how value works. That game is a single-player game for an unknown IP. It likely has FAR less features than HoMM7 and is far less complicated to work on both the art and development side of. Economics is interesting, you should do some research on it.
Again, because value doesn't work like that. "A full game" can mean a LOT of different things. Transistor was a "full game" that only took me 6 hours to beat. It was a ton of fun and so I got the value out of it at $15. Further, the work that went into the writing, gameplay, and artwork MORE than justified the price.
Meanwhile, I pay $60 for Total War: Warhammer. That is also a "full game" that I got the value out of. But at a completely different price point.
Similarly, DLC for a game may range in price but ultimately what sets a price is the minimum price a vendor thinks they can sell something for and still be profitable. If they aren't turning a profit then they just wasted the last year of development. Because let me tell you a secret about games like Heroes 7 and Total War: Warhammer that have top tier graphics and expansive systems built around them: They are sold initially at an expected loss.
$50-60 for a game like these does not net much in the way of profits after years of developer work, costly art and animation, and marketing (however minimal it may be for some games). What they are is a platform to try and create buzz and further profit down the road. DLC/expansions are one way to extend the shelf-life of a game and help ameliorate the burden of development.
Game developers can't survive in the modern game economy if they just put out the base game and call it done or sell DLC for nothing (unless it's a popular enough game where they can make up for cheapness with volume). Heroes of Might and Magic is NOT a popular series. Look at the subreddit for it compared to almost any other game genre. And one with 7 entries at that! We are a niche audience and they are doing their best to give us what we want.
They have to charge $30 because if they charge $15 it won't pay for itself and all the other free content let alone make a profit. $30 is standard expansion price for old games. I mean, I paid $30 for Starcraft: Brood War and all it had was 6 new units, 2 new tilesets, and 3 campaigns. This expansion has a whole new faction, artifacts, abilities, etc.! When you add in the stuff they are giving away for free it's incredible value they are providing!
Hey I think I just figured out how to pitch this purchase to my wife. Thanks!
Hey man, I get it. Different amounts of money mean different things to everybody. This thread has an extremely negative tone though that I think is unjustified.
There's still the patch with the in-client RMG to enjoy! So happy skirmishing!
Not blaming the victim at all. Its not victimization to have to pay for a game? They worked hard on this and are going to continue doing so I have no doubt. They arent done after this and thats because ubisoft and Im sure Limbic too dont normally abandon their games after less than a year of release? That would make no sense at all. It wouldnt surprise me to see a lot more patch support and at least one more expansion maybe even two more. Limbic just seems to be moving a little faster than Heroes V did which isnt necessarily a bad thing. Games are continuing to go up in price and thats not so much their fault. They worked on it they are free to charge as they please.
yeah really ?? i'll just quote myself to make it easy for me because you ofc are talking complete nonsense:
Here's the thing, if a game isn't in early access I expect it to be finished when they are trying to sell it to me at a ridiculous price.
