Can you be worthy of Excalibur?
So I tried several setups. I sided with the Saxons, with the Picts and with myself and went to Avalon after Dun Phris. Each time I was unworthy of the sword.

Now can you actually be worthy of it? If so could you please tell me how and when? I love the idea but feel it's poorly executed like some others. There is no explanation in the stone tablets or from anyone what would make you worthy. Even the lore that the sisters on the isle give you basically gives you nothing. Firstly the Picts fought off the Romans, which is why Hadrians Wall was built. Arthurius being the last of the legion and leading them against the Saxons makes no sense whatsoever. If he did exist he was a Briton and lived in what is now England, Wales and Cornwall. However if we want to go down that route than allying with Caustantin is oviously the way to go.

The question for me here is: is it related to story progress? If so you should give some sort of indication. If I need to conquer Northumbria for the Picts first then let me know somehow. Place the last tablet in Dun Phris but have it lead to Eoferwick and some hidden spot that THEN gives you the location of Avalon.

Like I said I have no clue whether it's a story issue and just poorly explained or whether I triggered something that didn't trigger or what but I would really like to know from the devs. Tbh it just doesn't make sense to find that weapon after basically most is said and done. If you conquer Northumbria that is basically it. Yes you have a couple of other fights but it's pretty pointless to gain an unblockable weapon and a great armor for the last two fights of this game. However I'd appreciate it if you could let me know as I do want to take the more peaceful approach and do not want to invade Avalon.

You need to have conquered northumbria and pictavia, basically being a king yourself, to be worthy.

AHHH. So the proper Viking route then? So I suppose you would go there after the Great Heathen Army quest and before returning home?

Correct. Then you can return home and wield extreme executive power.

Does being worthy of excalibur when you take it actually grant you an advantage though

Finish the " The Isle of Apples"-Questline and hope you're worthy ;)

Yeah, I preferred the line of thought that you found excalibur to justify your conquest of Northumbria and Pictavia ;). But I can see what the Devs mean, and hey- it's not like you CAN'T get it if you aren't worthy! :P

How do we get the Isle of apples quest? I would not want to miss it. I just started the great heathen army quest.
I am a bit late, but if you manage to read the symbols on the Henge at the Druid when you do the pict quests you will get it.

There is an easier way: if you recruit Morcant, he can translate it given one or two hour's game time

Doesn't really matter, to be honest. You can decipher the runes on the Stonehenge near the hermit Druid by either having high sense or by reading all 7 Standing Stones. The only downside to the latter is that you first must re-visit the Stonehenge, before you can decipher the Standing Stones themselves, which means you have to travel between the locations a few times. You save yourself a roundtrip time to all 7 if you manage to initially decipher the Stonehenge Runes.
