SOLUTION - Way two:
Also an option would be to turn off "deadly combat mode", so you don't kill the kids, but knock them out. As they don't have further appearience in the game it might be just a cosmetical solution at all, but as the devs said: "A decision for your soul's peace"
If you tell Jardarr about the punch-up, your character says that you "kicked the kids asses properly" (freely translated) he'd say something like "That'll teach the little buggers".
So the game - no matter what comes - recognises the difference between killing them and knocking them out for this quest. As long as you got them all of course.
Can't tell if they ever appear after that, as this solution is a thing I figured out myself and wasn't predicted by the devs as I saw it.
You're welcome, have fun
@Don
Yah, also the mentioned farm near your hometown would've been, even with only the women left to maintain it, the kids could have been good support to them, for they could've helped each other.
Sounds fun
