Wolf packs?! Wtf?

What is with randomly being attacked by a super pack of wolves, they killed my entire herd and all i could do was injure them half way. I can only move my characters the first turn, the next they are already on me, knocked down 2 of my guys, and rendered my bowman and slinger useless because they get a free attack if i try something. This is a tad bit ridiculous, i just left Northumbria, destroyed the team that wanted to test my fighting skills but now i leave and can't even destroy a wolf pack? Come now, am i missing something? Perhaps if i was given the ability to actually attack first instead of standing there and letting them attack me.

I just reloaded the save and its impossible to beat them.

I find running away, find obstacles to restrict the number of wolves who can attack you at a time and a judicious use of barricades to be helpful.

Yes, surviving the first turn is a pain though.

Wwll, to be honest I've never had too many problems with the wolves, but when choosing my party to fight them, I make sure that I have for example the Leechstave spear with me, which deals extra damage against beasts...

If you're really desperate, there is a cheat that you could use to get out of the fight - I usually only use it for mod-testing, as it pretty much breaks the game's suspense:
Open the kcommand konsole and enter win battle - this will make you win the active battle instantaneously...

Ragnar ironman playthrough, until now not a single reload was needed due to loss (only 2 due to bugs). This encounter is obnoxious in every way. I'm on my 27th attempt to beat those ♥♥♥♥♥ now

Wolf packs are hard. The only strategy I have for them is running to a corner, forming a shield wall and hoping the archers can take down the nearest wolves with quick shot before the rest of the pack can destroy my front line.

I had to save scrum around the random wolf pack encounter and I had to reload the Rhea Silvia fight 7 times, partially because I kept forgetting to toggle lethal strikes off to complete the quest.
