So, any way to play a caster?
I understand that the game is very low magic (or no-magic, perhaps?), but I still saw some caster-like options in the character creator (mostly healing and debuff). Is it viable to rely on those and play a pure caster? Do those tricks actually help in combat? If yes, what would be a good build for that?

In theory, yes. There is afaik only one 1:1 fight and there you get the option to have someone else fight for you because you are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ weakling and a disgrace, you wannabe-viking.

In reality, I don't think this will be an interesting approach, unless you like it weird, because your leader will just sit there and spam debuffs during combat.

Well, there are some buffs, debuffs, a melee range mind control spell, healing and revive. Röskva isn't really good at meele range, so...

You can try a support build like STR 7, END 10, SEN 10 with shield and axe (only 1 point in axes needed to obtain Shield Hook). It's good on harder difficulties and 10 sense gives lot of options in conversations.

For a pure support character, your skills of choice would be Leadership, Healing, Revive, and Witchcraft. Leadership has one of the most powerful support abilities in the game, which is Inspire - it lets you give your attack action to another character, which can be incredibly useful. Galder has a set of increasingly powerful full-group buffs which last 3 turns each, Witchcraft has Poison which is great against heavily armoured or shielded units, and some interesting debuffs that can however be difficult to use effectively.

PVA's build suggestion for an axe/shield support character makes a lot of sense (see what I did there?), since the axe have very supportive abilities.

Unless you spec her that way ;) she can become pretty deadly with a knife if you give her the right skills.

I went with a full support character, no weapon skill, still doing the first quests. So far, so good. Inspire is indeed very powerful, diplomacy look useful, witchcraft seems underpowered (which I find a bit of a surprise, caster skills are usually insane in RPGs). I'm grinding it to unlock the mind control ability, but dust and talon so far have proved useless. Let's see how it goes with tougher enemies.

I might be looking at some of the Witchcraft abilities for buffs in a future patch.

Please make it retroactive, I don't want to restart for the third time:)

Patch 1.0.6 is scheduled for after the summer break, so you'll probably be long done with your current playthrough by then. But anyway, with the exception of purchase costs, skill changes are always retroactive.
