The best method is to create a master armourer, and have him/her make you the best armour possible.

Isn't lammelar with effects the best you can get anyway?

Also, has anyone seen chainmail? A hauberk? Pretty sure they've been in widespread use during that period, but I've yet to encounter one my party can use.

I am also finding this wierd, I saw that when I killed the guards at the tomb your character can notice that one is wearing mail. Why can't we loot that off their body? Or any enemy for that matter? They usually have "nothing" when I loot them.

I think they are part of the lower tire armours, when you do the tomb raider mission there is a guard, and the game tells you that she is wearing fine chainmail that a Jarl would be jealous of.

Can confirm you can get chainmail by upgrading a party members armour skill to max then spending a lot of hides to craft armour

Which ofc makes sense, since chain mail was often made of leather and not metal :P

I think he meant spend hides as a curancey to have the armour made. Hides have a high use value, so they are considered to be worth more by most merchants. The game has a barter economy, which is historically accurate to the real Vikings.

no lammler is level 2 of the armourer i think in my village i have fully upgraded the armourer but he cant make anything anymore i think it might be a bug but i would think heavy chainmail would be the best

Lamellar was the best armour in that that time, it consisted of padded armor, then chainmail, then the lamellar suit over top, or sometimes just the padded armour and the lamellar. Certain blacksmith have different tires, the one in your Homestead is only tire 2, the one in Ribe is tire 3, it goes up to 5 which is a master smith. In my opinion it is better to take one of your hird (either your main character or, one of the mercenaries) and turn them into your master smith, tire 5.
