Can't comment on the online playerbase, but if you're mainly interested in singleplayer (like me), then it won't matter how many other people play it online (or offline). Though it is worth noting that you don't HAVE to be online to play a game with someone, you just send your turn, they send theirs, and watch the outcome when both turns have been sent, if i recall correctly. So that might affect playercount.
Only downside is they took out local multiplayer, i think, being able to play locally with hotseating was a kinda useful thing to have. That would've been a nice update to add into the sequel... (FS1 has it, so, why not FS2, as well?)
The singleplayer/town-mode aint too bad either, though quite confusing at first... The story part of it is a hit-or-miss, as you're mostly just waiting for and doing story missions as they appear, trying to not piss off any faction that's big enough to stomp you, and it's quite hard to keep everyone pleased, doing a favor for one is always gonna piss off someone else, typically... Especially if it pays well! And it's a rather boring grind to get more money, more mercenaries, more bases... Takes quite a while.
It got a little more interesting after the story though, when you beat the story and just get to do whatever you like in the city mode, and just see what level of crazy happens when you start picking fights with all the factions, especially after you've accuired God knows how many mercenaries and funds and other things to be on reasonable military standing with them.
Can't complain about the combat elements though, it's as good as ever, even more stuff to play around with, though the big enviroments sure favor Snipers a LOT... And Turrets are just 120K wastes of money where a Sniper would've done the job better, AND faster. Street fights get a little unfair though, but atleast building fights are fine.
Well, whatever, i had plenty of fun just killing time with post-story city mode, i wonder if that's accessible by default now, just playing city mode without Sonata missions/stuff/artifacts/etc, just doing whatever you want? Ah, it was a good way to kill time...
But FS2/1 is more an online game, but with a dead playerbase the game is useless for me.
Hope another good game like FS2 or turnbased will released soon.Dont like very complex turn basded game like the civ-serie.
DoortKickers 2 will be perfect when it have a real PVP-mode (not only boring coop, the coop-mose is not a real onlinemode for me).
The city mode sound fun.
You have to finish story mode to play it?
no software is alive, no software is dead.
actual claims-
there have been updates. ive had zero crashing (not much playtime however).
the part about a tiny playerbase is TRUE however.
No point getting mad at the devs when they did everything they could to make a great game.
Sad because it could have been a really good game...
