Focus and Ignore

How do you use forcus and ignore orders? How do you select which unit to focus or ignore. For me, it autoselects the nearest unit, including friendly civilians. How do I select a differeint unit?

You select the friendly unit you want (left click).
You right click on the enemy unit you want to focus/ignore and select > focus/ignore.

It's important you do _not_ actively select the enemy unit (left click) and add the focus/ignore because the order will then be issued to the enemy unit and not your friendly unit.
