BTW I highly recommend not mixing tiers in a platoon. It's a situation where 3 tiers can be in one battle. And there's nothing worse than being a VII and facing VIIIs and IXs. I suppose it might be possible to seemingly take advantage of this in tier 10, and pair with a 9, but your team will have VIIIs too...
If there's 90 x-tier there is enough tanks to make some battle all x-tier.
It does seem like at least when a tank is new, the first few battles (7 or 8 I believe) match maker only matches you with same or lower tier. After that, it's open house. According to streamer types, this does not affect press accounts.
In my experience odd tiers seem worse for this than even tiers, best chance for being top tier is tier viii.
This is why I am enjoying my re-roll tier iv only account, while I do get tier v battles (4+ tier v per side) frequently. The difference in gun penetrations (10% avg.) is felt less than at higher tiers.
Also for an unknown period of time, daily missions will give 1 days premium for completing 8 battles provided you do not buy a tech tree tank above tier iv. I have received a free tier viii collector tank on this account and used free gold to purchase a tier v premium to test this. The basic game play experience at tier iv is fundamentally the same as at higher tiers, move, use cover, try to flank, focus fire etc.
If/when the daily missions no longer give free premium I'll free exp to tier vi and then viii.
I have already free exp to the tier vii US light on my way to the T49. Premium/collector tier viii light tanks are the ones seen least in the store.
You are however excluded from some "events" below tier v so it depends on what you want from your gameplay.
One week ago, I was at 62% WR (for 800 battles), strolling with my JagdPanther against same Tier and it was having a great time. And all of a sudden, the game started to put me in front of Tier 8. Despite being fully upgraded, I couldn't pen most of tanks I met, especially the ubiquitous K-2 which seems to flood that level.
Over the week, through ~50 battles, I had around 5 or 6 battles in which I was against equal or lower Tier. 90% of the time, the game wanted me to have a hard time. So I thought perhaps there are not enough T6 or 7. I tried few battles playing a Tier 5 and nope, it was full of Tier 6. Went with a T6, was full of T7.
I was sorry for the li'l T6 fella that was dumped there in front of four T8 on two or three occasions. I don't remember what happened to them, but I have no doubt they had a great time (happened to me a couple times).
I could bear this if it was not for the horrendous mates the matchmaking is putting me with. With a WR ranging from 45 to 50 (by miracle a fistful of them reach 55), the MM sometimes allows itself to drop a couple of AFKers, because why not, maybe I'm doing to well for its taste.
I don't mind having from time to time T8 in a battle to spice the things a bit up. But when they're 70% of the team at 90% of the occasions, it becomes plain annoying.
I'm on the verge of buying my very first T8, I already unlocked it, just need the munnies. If I end up mostly against T9, I guess I gonna uninstall the game
The low number of battles you have will greatly influence your experience. I would expect you to be playing against a mixture of bots and real players who also have low battle counts. This is done for training purposes and so that you are not immediately matched against players with tens of thousands of battles and hundreds of battles in their tank and on that map.
It also means that the other real players and you will not yet have had the time to discover how to defeat some of the stronger tanks you will be fighting. For example, tanks tend to have stronger front armor and higher tier tanks may only be penned frontally by using premium ammo and carefully aiming at smaller weak spots. Attacking those tanks from the side or rear may be more effective. You can also discover those weak spots quicker using armor.wotinspector.com. Once you've become more familiar with the tactics needed being low tier won't be as difficult.
Give yourself some time to learn how to defeat those higher tier tanks. Don't rush up to the higher tiers.
Only having 800 battles will also mean that your winrate can easily change up or down. 10 losing battles just makes a bigger change to 800 battles than it does to 8,000 battles.
Finally, the only way a tier 6 tank will see tier 8 tanks is if they platoon with a tier 7 tank. (Platoons are matched based on the top tank). This is called a "failtoon." Be sure to check the tier of your platoon mate's tank before you press Ready. You'll regret it if you don't.
You don't have enough credits? Buy a higher tier or credits... WG profit.
K-2 is everywhere because it was a relatively easy free to get tank, though of course it needed credits to fully equip... so WG profit.
Same with Blasteroid at tier vi
Tier vii is a terrible tier due to all the fantasy tanks (Annihilator, Smasher etc.) more profit for WG.
imo, free exp asap to tier viii which has much better balance. In the meantime tier vi is probably more balanced than vii with plenty of good TD at that tier when facing tier vii.
Save up credits so you can hit tier viii with a good tech-tree tank fully equipped.
The game experience is not different at higher tiers, but frustration level is higher.
Most players are grinding past for their tier X. Their motivations are an enigma. As most utterly and completely refuse to respond to any message. Even if it's to tell them they are good.
Proof?
Enjoying a game is not evidence of wrongdoing. Defending a game is not evidence of working for the game.
Skill accounts for about 10% of winning. I watch match after match where 40%ers are pulling amazing shots and/or getting hit 16x in a match and taking only 50% damage because RNG bounced 14 of the shots.
I watch actual skilled players make 100% aimed shots from a stationary position on stationary targets and the shots nose into the dirt....over and over and over.
The "skill" argument is so dead it's just stupid for people to claim such. If the 40%er were so skilled in not getting penned or making such amazing shots..then how they ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ are they 40%ers still?
RNG accounts for 90% of the gameplay. You want to see skill then make Real Mode count towards Career battles and stats. See who really is "skilled" since there is no RNG for armor pens.
Additionally when 1 team has 6 40%ers and 1 50-60%er on it and the other a good mixed of 40-60%ers..that's not skill. That is MM making the match unfair. Some call it rigging...
This is what happens when accuracy is randomized. The system is such that you can aim at something perfectly, and miss every shot.
If they didn't win sometimes? They'd be 0%ers.
