“The current aiming system has served us well for many years. We have periodically improved certain aspects of it, but recently we experimented with more serious improvements. Improved aiming is noticeably different from the usual one, becoming faster, smoother and more responsive both on mobile devices and on PC. This allows not only to aim more accurately while moving, but also encounter certain "ghost shell" issues less often when firing and rotating the turret rapidly at the same time. The auto-aim on all platforms also gets improved—it follows the target better. On the other hand, the new aiming behavior may seem pretty unfamiliar, especially at the first time—you would definitely have to get used to it.”

As a Mac user I couldn’t participate and I haven’t seen anything from WG about how well it went.
My guess (and that’s all it is) is that it could be some version of the server reticle option found in WOT. This substitutes a reticle based on the client’s last info on what the server sees. It would reduce some types of ghost shells. It wouldn’t eliminate all of them:
“Shots that fall outside of your aim or go into a completely different direction are usually caused by network or server lag. This can happen because every movement of your aim on your client has to be transmitted to the server first and executed there as well. So regardless of your latency the server aim will always lag slightly behind your aiming on the client. If you press CapsLock + 0 during a battle, your client will show an additional blue reticle which shows the last information the client has received about where the server is currently placing your aim, as well as the size of the aiming circle on the server. Since this is subject to latency as well, it is not entirely accurate either, but if you are having latency related problems it can be a good idea to use the server reticle and wait until server and client reticles match before you fire a shot. The server reticle is not displayed while Automatic Aiming is engaged.”

Oh yeah. I couldn’t give a %, but it happens a bunch. My client see’s one thing but the server says “nope, this happened.”
