What the hell is a stock tank?

Ik this might sound stupid, but Im genuinely curious at this term? I've tried researching it, but all I find are forums talking about this as though it's as common as breathing. I keep hearing it from time to time but I dont get it

Stock tank, huh. It means any tank that has the worst equipment ( worst:turret, gun, tracks, etc).

Stock doesn't mean the worst Gun and Engine (But most of the time this is the Case. Tanks like T-150 and Kv-1s can take on Many other tanks with Stock Gun and Engine.

The su-152's stock gun is the best it has, as well as the t43 (which gets the gun from the t3485 as its best gun and therefore has it already researched when the tank is bought)

SU-152's stock gun is 152mm HE gun, am I right?
