You can also change the markers above tanks in the HUD section, and have different ones for enemy tanks. That way I don't have to rely on the color at all - if the player's name shows up it's a teammate.
I'm 50% r/g colorblind. That mode works well for me but the new color for enemy tanks still doesn't show up on my mini-map. The purple (?) icons just fade into the background. I can see enough of the green but mostly rely on whatever that color is to be lighter than the enemy tanks. At least I know where my teammates are.
(I had the chance to provide some colorblind mode feedback to staff and asked for the minimap to be changed. Maybe some day it will be).
