I'm focusing on tier II atm so know the TD there quite well.
Are you charging into battle with them? Because they aren't really that kind of tank. Yes the T82 does have good armour but once anyone gets alongside or behind you that gun doesn't do anything for you.
Go back to tier I and try using the British Medium I as a TD, it's slow got terrible armour but can be fitted with a powerful gun. Use camoflage and let your team spot for you then fire, pull back or even re-position. While there are some TD that can brawl most cannot (slow reload).
I'm not a l33t player, just average so for ref here are my career numbers for tier II TD
T18 87 battles DPB 388
PzJg I 100 battles DPB 332
AT-1 102 battles DPB 311
UC 2 pdr 43 battles DPB 253
Map knowledge is very important for TD, knowing where the enemy will likely advance and being ready to shoot them when they do. That said a fast tank rush will always hurt so don't get too far away from your nearest team member.
Don't camp for long if no targets are appearing, and if someone has taken your spot find another. I do play my TD as quite mobile unless targets keep presenting themselves.
The T18 is a good close support TD, I'm better with the PzJg I though. I didn't get the hang of the UC 2 pdr.
for T18 and T82, the best gun is the one that is HE ammo and HEAT ammo type.
for HE ammo, burst radius is the primary attribute not penetration.
T18 is capable of 1 hit kill tier 1 and tier 2 tanks if you know how to aim properly.
T82 is capable of killing tier 2 tanks completely with 1 hit while it will take 2 shots to kill a tier 3 tank.
it all depends on where you shoot.
this is a team game, not one man show.
you can never win a 1 vs 7 battle at all no matter which tank you using.
p.s i mostly uses T18 and T82, so i know what is the best gun for those tanks.
for T18, the gun you should be using is gun 75 mm howitzer M1A1.
for T82, either gun 57 MM gun M1 or gun 105 mm AT howitzer M3.
though i will say gun 57 mm gun M1 is a better choice since its reload rate is very fast, the penetration is very high for a tier 3 tank.
T82's armor is very low. almost as low as SP I C tank.
I didn't get on so well with the derp gun, found I'm more effective with quicker firing guns. The same was true with the Hetzer.
It also worth checking the pen. stats for all HE guns as these are nearly the same as AP on some tanks but do more damage.
the tanks that has very high penetration for HE ammo are
1) su-152 and the higher tier of it
2) some british tanks are using is HESH ammo but it is being put as HE ammo instead.
i saw a few tier 10 british tanks their HE ammo where is average penetration is 100 to 120 is actually HESH ammo instead.
for hetzer, just don't let the enemy hit your sides or rear and you will win most of the time.
i always upgrade my traverse speed for my tanks before upgrading to new guns.
I seem to get killed from front shots alot in the Hetzer, maybe I'm unlucky. You do need a good team and awareness to cover your flanks well. The number of times I have to pull back in my Valentine II because my team cannot hold the flank or juist disappear somewhere. I'm constantly checking the mini-map.
For those that prefer a lone-wolf style I would recommend a light tank, a fast one so you can quickly switch flanks. Crusader Mk III (with 3 shot auto-loader) is really good for that. I do well (in terms of WR) with the M2 light as well. both have DR above 1.0.
TD are great for boosting your DR though.
Low tier also get good pen. from HE, best to check when you select your ammo the info is right there
for hetzer, my advice is to turn your tank and your gun together in the same direction.
that way, the enemy will always be aiming your front.
also, put quite some distance between you and them, don't go too near to them.
i notices that in lower tiers, the players there, their aiming is quite bad if you see them shoot from distance.
That's probably what's happening.
My accuracy is improving little by little each day, maybe +1% per week. It's around 70% on the Hetzer atm, sometimes the target moves just as I fire and I was using the derp gun for a while.
On the T40 it's 74%
PZ IV A does more damage and faster than a T82
legit 0 reason to use TDs in this game
armor and health is what matters
not just junky "cannon"
Mind you any quick firing tank will probably eat a PzIVa for breakfast. Depends how accurate the Pz IVa is.
I do recall one chasing me all over the map and getting itself surrounded at which point I finished it off in my light
PS just killed a PzIVa in my tier II Cruiser III 430 damage done off 8 shots
2 Pz IVa in the battle (one each side) DMG 247/175, yeah that's right I did more damage than both of them combined to just that one Pz IVa in a tier II light.
Cruiser is light tank + tank destroyer all in one :)
this is the worst reasoning i have ever seen especially since it is a 100% very bias post.
i have been using the T18, T82 all the way to jpanther II, isu-152......etc TD since i started playing this game till now and i don't have any problem with them at all.
you also failed to read our posts about how to use T18 and T82 more effectively and more efficiently.
1) you go upgrade the tank's gun first instead of their traverse speed
2) you are too used to fighting at the first line of offense (TDs' are not meant for this as they are more towards sniping)
3) you use auto aim too much (coorect me if i'm wrong, i have seen so many unskilled people in tier 6, tier 7 and tier 8 still using auto aim)
4) no teamwork (this is team game)
5) you aim the spots that are colored red in sniping mode and always at the front of the tank. (this is majority of the people's main weakness when playing this game, i can surely tell that even in WOT PC, people still making such a mistake)
:)
2) you can't snipe in this game. (You get defected in spawn)
3) I've had auto aim disabled before my first match
4) which matchmaking game really uses good team work???? Especially a mobile cross platform one?
5) I know where weak spots are on most tanks (I've played up to tier IX on normal WOT)
