Personally I love the action packed gameplay of sliding through corners and I don't care about cockpit view. I hate the social focus, the idea of 'getting fans', but whatever it's just points, I just ignore it together with the whole story line. The storyline is actually somewhat sensible (not too annoying or in the way), but it's a racing game so everyone ignores it.
I have not had found a single crash or bug, have you? So do you have any support for your conclusion of the game being 'rushed'.
Codemasters probably let the developers make their own creative decisions, leading to a game with character instead of a game with all known features in the racing world forced into it. Which is especially good as Codemasters makes lots of racing game, there are plenty of generic racers with the features you like and there will be many more.
There is a mod to bring cockpit view back. You can't argue that it was removed because it was unpopular. If it was unpopular it would be in the game, end of.
Since you don't own the game anymore (also, i don't see how you can return a game where you've already activated the game key on steam (this also leads me to believe you pirated the game, but that's just me)) you don't need to be here. Go review game on metacritic or the likes, where people actually care about how much you don't like the game.
Single player is just pure boredom. AI is extremely predictable, unrealistic and pathetic. You approach a corner and they start breaking like crazy. When you takeover all of a sudden they somehow gain incredible speed, even though they just ended breaking all the way. What?!
Ok, so you learn to steer away when you approach corners (otherwise they will faceplant you hard) but then comes a new problem. They start ramming your car and force you to crash into a wall. Excuse me?
The whole story is simply not interesting nor engaging and it feels like you're racing through events just to finish this incredibly poor game. Drifting is awful, car handling is painful, physics is eye-bleeding horrible. So is there anything good here? Yes there is - race tracks. They are very well executed, fun to drive (when nobody's ramming your car) and have really beautiful scenery. Sound in this game is also very good, however some car contact sounds become boring (and annoying) very soon.
After you finish single player the next logical way in this game is multi player, right? Are you hoping to have some fun there? Well don't because multi player is anything but fun. It is a complete nightmare. I want to believe that all the players online are teenagers who never drove a car, therefore they don't know about a little thing in the car called breaks. Seriously, corner after corner these kids will drive into a wall. Even after 3-4 laps. Hell, even after two to three events they just keep slamming & ramming. I might be wrong but it seems like they're enjoying it and having fun. Not me though because if you remember RaceDriver: GRID had full damage (yes, it was optional) but here online playlists only have visual damage. That means kids are safe to crash and spin your car without any consequences. Sounds fun? Only if you are mentally challenged.
Alright, you decide to avoid default online playlists and create a custom match with full damage. Even if you finish the race 1st you will get a ridiculous amount of XP. Without leveling up quickly you will be stuck with slow cars and no money to buy something better & faster. Upgrading cars is hilarious. For every part you will be asked "Are you sure you want to upgrade?", so you're stuck with a bunch on clicking and navigating through the menus just to put on some upgrades. Car upgrades have very little effect and if you fully upgrade your car to next tier you will realize that it's lesser advantage when in this new tier there are far better cars than your beefed up car with full upgrades. Really Codemaster, really?
RaceDriver: GRID online was absolutely amazing. It was nice to see the flags, so you knew where players come from. There was in-game chatting so you could easily connect with other good drivers and comment the race. If there was a nasty driver he would be easily voted out of the game. These features are non-existant in GRID 2. All of the fun we had in 2008 is gone. You are left with players' annoying voices, screaming and breathing in the microphone with no way to mute them during the race.
So without any joy in this game, you're left with very little hope. You feel miserable for spending your money only because you thought you were getting a really awesome racing game. In this misery you are rewarded with technical difficulties such as game crashing in the middle of the multi player race. Game launching at 24 Hz on your HDMI connected TV. I can't wait to discover more. Oh wait, that's right. I won't be playing this game anymore because it's pure garbage. My trust in Codemasters is forever gone. I played many of their games but will certainly avoid making the same mistake in the future. Do yourself a favor and avoid GRID 2 at all cost!
You do realise that car stats (for want of a better word) do actually effect how the cars handle? Unrealistic? Thats because this game isn't a hardcore racing sim. The AI "rams" you all the time into a wall? That tends to be because you're moving onto their racing line, no? CM did say the AI was going to be more aggressive, unlike the AI in GRID 1 which just moved away from you.
Drifting is awful? EEEHHHH not really, it takes more time to get used to after GRID 1, sure, but its not as bad as you say it is. Would you prefer the drifting set up from GRID 1? If you're mentally challenged, sure, but no its good as it is, i prefer this drift set up rather than the tracks made of ICE from GRID 1.
Multiplayer isn't as bad as you say either nor are there many balance issues, the first few races I played online I was against higher ranked opponents and came 1st/3rd and there was never any deliberate crashing, EVER. You take to bashing the menus, christ, sounds like all you want to do is cry about the game so you take to crying about there's too many menus? Upgrading cars from previous teir to the next is obviously a bad move, common sense plays a role here, how can't you see that?
Avoiding GRID 2 is not the way to go, perhaps you should keep your expectations in check before expecting something that it isn't?
Also, on a final note, "so you're stuck with a bunch on clicking and navigating through the menus just to put on some upgrades". Clicking? You're playing a racing game with a keyboard?
ALSO, you make a reference to GRID 1 "There are so many things wrong with this game. I don't know why it's even called GRID 2 when it doesn't have anything to do with the best racing game in the world - RaceDriver: GRID". You've only played 3 hours of GRID 1, yet you call it the BEST RACING GAME IN THE WORLD <-- after 3 hours of playtime, amazing.
If you had any knowledge about RaceDriver: GRID you would know that it would be impossible for me to comment the multi player aspect of the game since the servers were shut down over 4 years ago. Therefore, the rest of your post is automatically invalid. Those who pre-ordered GRID 2 know that RaceDriver: GRID was free, including the first DLC.
The bottom line is even if people buy GRID 2 they will experience the same issues with this game, whether they played the original or not, they will come to same conclusions. I was compelled to warn potential buyers so they know what they're getting. If you're enjoying the game, good for you. However, one day you will look back and realize just how bad GRID 2 really is. Till then, have fun.
GRID 2 isn't bad, you just think it is. I didn't just take "what I liked" I took everything you said and gave you an answer to it. For example you said that AI would ram you into walls etc. and I clearly stated that CM said that the AI would be aggresive, unlike the AI in GRID that moved away from you. You also said that " Car upgrades have very little effect" and I also stated that "You do realise that car stats (for want of a better word) do actually effect how the cars handle?".
I have my opinion on the drifitng set up, yes. But I have just recognised one thing in your post "Legitimate critism based on FACTS" no, your criticisms are based on your opinion of the game, your opinion is never ever fact.
"put some effort and do it the proper way by objectivly refuting my conclusions". I did, as i've shown above. It seems that it's impossible to win the argument with you because you're so set in beliving that GRID 2 is terrible when it isn't and I won't be coming back because of the following.
“Never argue with an idiot; he will bring you down to his level and win from experience.”
― Brad Slipiec
i drive using a Logitech G27 wheel and find the 1,000Hz sampling on tyre physics to be refreshing, alot better than DiRT 3, which now feels floaty and unresponsive. The handling of GRID 2 has actually spoiled me. About single player, the AI are just pylons which you need to go around, what else should AI be? Who's going to protect you, from Robots?
About Multiplayer, find some friends (if you can), and race with them in playlist. If not (as i suspect), just be a defensive driver. i think that you are A) a kid who never drove a real car, or B) a pip who doesnt know how to drive on a race track... find a way to avoid bad drivers and very much contrary to popular opinion, you can get decent points in Custom Event if you play against higher ranked drivers.
About the upgrades system.,..: READ THE INFORMATION BARS CORRECTLY... a tier 1 car upgraded to tier 2 without max'ing out the power, top speed, and handling will be a terrible car as compared to a stock tier 2 car, find a car in each tier that handles well and only upgrade enough to be at the fringe of the next tier, cant expect to do much with a VW Golf in Tier 2 if it only goes half-way to Top Speed can you?
If you want immersion buy a car...
There's no reason cockpit view shouldn't be in this.
Stop adding DLC stuff and fix the bugs first codemasters!!!
Codemasters where is the authenticity and attention to detail you were once renowned for in motor racing?
Its a steaming pile 2nd only to Desert bus as the worst driving game ever . I loved Grid 1 but Grid 2 is the last Codemasters game I will buy. Check out Race Room experience that’s going to be the best racing game ever and you can play the Beta on steam.
