How do you drift..properly?
I realize sometimes I can't drive properly because I can't execute corners correctly. I can drift a little and sometimes I do very good ones, but not properly because I'm not using the handbreak method. I usually just break softly and steer left or right to drift. When I try to use handbreak to drift I usually overdo it and end up spinning and crashing? Do I have to tap handbreak or something? I might get a controller for this game if I notice that I can't get better with a keyboard. I don't know. I just can't use the true handbreak method to drift. I just always crash with it. The only use it's been to me is when I'm speeding and a corner is coming up and it saves me from a deadly accident at times. That's all really.

I'm wondering the same. Whenever I'm going fast and I just use the break it the drift works sometimes but usually the car just spins off too much from the drift and I crash. The handbrake is worse and it usually always causes my hard to spin out of control. Is the handbreak like a toggle that brakes the rear wheels or do I have to hold it down because it seems like a toggle because I just tap it once and boom spins out of control.

I'll start from some examples:
1) This is my recent c63 single player video:

2) No brakes example:

3) If you think I’m precise only because I use a wheel, then watch this next video - friend is using a keyboard:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKy8sW-I79g

I’ll quote my recent post on the similar topic:
Beating AI is easier than you think.
You can refer to these great youtubers that have finished campaign on a very hard difficulty:

1) ADIHD (Logitech G25 racing wheel)
2) Lazy Bug (keyboard)
3) MSWGR (keyboard)

If you are interested in Global Challenges, here's my channel where I upload Checkpoint and PowerLap challenges weekly (Logitech G27 racing wheel).

You don't have to use a gamepad/wheel to be good at this game, so don't give up.

Start from easy to control FWD/AWD cars like:
Tier 1 - Golf, Giulietta
Tier 2 - Nismo
Tier 3 - Civic (I haven't tried this one in a while, but it's one of free FWD cars)
Tier 4 - Bugatti
Note that I don't like any of these cars, because RWD ones drift better and generally faster.

Guilietta would your best choice. Start from tracks with easy 90 degrees turns like Miami and Chicago: most of the corners here don't require braking at all. You just need to feel the car, throw it in a drift and countersteer.

As for an e-brake - it should be your best friend, especially with FWD/AWD cars:
1) brake or just release throttle or full throttle depending on a turn,
2) turn in,
3) tap e-brake if you feel you are understeering (but with FWD/AWD cars you'll get this a lot),
4) throttle control and steer.

In a nutshell: throw you car into a drift and countersteer :)

You can also try Touring cars, but they grip too much and are very bad vs. drift-to-win physics.

The main key to drifting is just learning how to control the car to how you want it. Here's a video I just made as a test session for my livestream. My control setup is as follows:

Left Thumbstick: Steering left and right
Left Trigger: Brakes
Right Trigger: Accelerator
B Button: E-brake
Back Button: Flashback
Right Bumper: Change Camera View

also, I've learned a lot from watching the Drift King's (Keiichi Tsuchiya) Drift Bible video which you can find here.

GRID:1 was the better game when it comes to handling and drifting. GRID:1 has that fun factor GRID:2 is missing. Also how do you turn off that annoying screen effect (cam behind the car is constantly bouncing around)
