How to get off starting line fast?

So alfter quite a while I decided to give it a try (i mean Grid 2). And once again this game starts to annoy the carp out of me.

More to the point... I have this single player race, first one in Asia. I'm in Mazda RX-7 (FD) and the other guy is obviously in a Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34) of some spec. So today I managed only like five or six good starts an even overtook him once before the fisrt time checkpoint. And then I lost it.

Seriously. Now everytime we take off he leaves me way behind, so I must doing something wrong. I mean at the first checkpoint I'm always 2 secs behind and RX-7 being underpowered there is no way I can catch him while going uphil.

So anyone cares telling me how do you get off starting line fast in this mysterious so called racing game? I'd be grateful.

I'll try again maybe next week. I also play on the hardest difficulty and there's no way I can catch that GT-R going uphill. Drifting (as much as I don't like being forced to do it instead of grip driving) is not problem for me. That FD somehow seams (just too much) underpowered and in some corners it almost begs for 2nd gear wich is not funny.
