Operation Flashpoint: Red River

Operation Flashpoint: Red River

Shows Promise on Steam Deck?
A while back, I posted a discussion about trying to get Red River to run on my Windows 10 PC, to no real avail, not without reverting to a previous driver. So I essentially gave up on doing so.

A few hours ago, I tried out of sheer curiosity to get the game to run on Steam Deck, which, admittedly yes, does not launch the game. ProtonDB all but confirms this. However, I did come across something promising when scouring the forums. Something called Xliveless that basically removes the need for GFWL altogether. I figured "screw it" and downloaded the files and placed them in the game's directory folder.

And it worked. Partially. I can go through the loading videos and get to the "Press Return" screen, but when I hit Return (Enter), the game just up and crashes.

Now I'm not particularly well-versed in how to navigate Linux; I'm still messing around as I type. So I'm curious to see if anyone else who owns a copy of the game and is familiar with Linux is willing to take a crack at it themselves.

I'm curious as to what symptoms you had/have for the game not working on Windows 10. I'm still not able to launch it on Windows 11 -- I get a 1000 Application Error in the Windows event log, with a 0xC0000005 access violation for the RedRiver.exe executable.

I have the game working correctly on Windows 10 22H2, even with the GFWL login, which I think is actually necessary for this game, in order to apply a patch to v1.2 and download the user profile.

But no dice for Windows 11, 23H2, 24H2, no matter what Nvidia drivers are installed. I have a Steam friend who can launch it without issue on Windows 11 with a Radeon card, go figure. Tried engaging Nvidia support for help (yeah, I know), but they suggested contacting to no longer existing developer for help.
@green light ops
replicated your work around and i have the same exact same issue on Steam Deck. If you screen record the process while the game crashes, you can see a popup in game that says it is checking for downlaodable content. Then it crashes. If there is a way to bypass checking that im assuming that it wouldnt crash.
