xlive.dll is MISSING!
So yeah... When I try to launch the game it say's it can't be launched because of a missing file called xlive.dll. I already tried to run it as administrator and change windows compatibility, but obliviously nothing changes. Now my question is: Where can I find a good and secure source to download that file? And if you have other methods to fix this problem just tell me. Thank you! :steammocking:

I know this comes a bit late but If anyone else needs help with this i could solve mine by doing the following steps:

  1. Download the offline installer for "Microsoft Games for Windows Live" from here [community.pcgamingwiki.com]
  2. Extract the zip
  3. Start the installation file "gfwlivesetup.exe" with right click --> Start as Administrator
  4. Download and install Visual C++ 2005 from here [www.microsoft.com] (vcredist_x64 or vcredist_x86)
  5. Go to "..\steamapps\common\Operation Flashpoint Red River" right click "RedRiver.exe" and "RedRiverLauncher.exe" and change the compatibility to Windows 7 and check the mark for "Start programm as Administrator"
  6. Restart your Computer and try to start the game from the steam launcher. :)

Fair play...bought a key for this to relive some early teenage memories. Thanks for the quikc, easy, and simple guide. 5 minutes of work and worth it.

This game is NOT "ready to go" when installed through Steam. You have to download the latest (warning: this is going to sound totally stupid) GFWL, even though those servers are like totally dead now, and be sure to get the package that has gfwlclient.msi, gfwlivesetup.exe V 3.5.89.0, wllogin_32.msi, wllogin_64.msi, and xliveredist.msi...installing only gfwlivesetup.exe V 3.5.89.0 (there are other sources that offer supposedly the same version number, but have fatal flaws in them).

DO NOT LAUNCH GAME YET.

Get these two files made for Bulletstorm (the game doesn't matter; these are the exact files you need) in one archive: xlive.dll, xlive.ini. Copy them into Red River's directory.

NOW you can play. This rigamarole allows you to bypass the "required" GFWL bullcrap. (the sources are in another Steam article in this forum)

Or, if you're stubborn: You can create an offline profile in GFWL. SUPPOSEDLY, the option is available in the "create new profile" process. (used to be necessary for GTA IV Complete Windows 7 retail version until Steam fixed it for Windows 10)
