Anyways, I loved this game - had a lot of fun with it. It's probably the best rally game in recent times. I won't comment about the DRM, though - sometimes GFWL is a pain in the ass.
I bought GTA IV days ago and installed it like usual. Opened up the game and ran into Xbox/Windows live issues. I ended up calling the support line and they remotely accessed my computer to help me debug my issues. When the tech saw the icon for windows live he almost flipped. He explained that the version I had installed was so old that it was bound to have conflicts with any other windows live games I purchased in the future. He uninstalled all the windows live stuff and directed me to download the Windows Live Marketplace application from the store to replace the old outdated programs I had which were from 2008/2009 when GTA IV came out. So this may/may not be related as it seems DiRT also relies on Windows live.
Will update this when I install the game tonight.
As has already been said, it seems less arcade than Dirt 2 and I love the inclusion of 70s and 80s cars, more my era :)
I will say tho GFWL almost fked me once, after about 2minutes of searching I fixed the issue and that was basically the closes thing I've had to an issue.
As for the gameplay, it's dope man. The handling is difficult though with all assist off (which is what I like) so keep that in mind. Graphically looks amazing of course, Gymkhana is something I've never heard of and wasn't into but I know plenty of peeps who play Dirt3 for that mode in particular. Multiplayer was jumpin the last time I was online, about a month ago.
My only gripe with the game is the lack of amount of cars and customization (this is coming from some1 whose last racing game was Forza4), so of course compared to that I was going to be disappointed. Also I've never played any of the other Dirt games.
Hope that helps at least a little.

You must of not got the point of my thread. I willl spell it out for you again. Obviously I want the game and the point of the thread was stated at the beginning. That I was (keyword "was"), debating on buying it because all I kept hearing was how a lot of people were having issues with it etc especially with GFWL. And a few replies later I also stated that real life happened and I couldn't buy it because I was not home so I missed the sale (again, obviously I wanted it).
There is no point to me in buying it right now for the regular price of $25 when I know it willl be on sale again. Probably in steams summer sales. So nice try of saying I am greedy though. Especially when you replied to this thread 10 days later from when I originally made it, which was May 2nd. lmfao!!!! :D
Enjoy!
Thanks for the heads up.
