that sounds like a bug, verify your install using the client and if that doesn't work, reinstall altogther. if you still have the same issues contact frontier support. They're one of the few support teams that I actually have had pleasant and helpful experiences with.
Q and E are latteral directional thrusters and R and F are vertical directional thrusters. Accelerate to where your thrusters are in the blue region on your HUD to get maximum maneuverability and then use your directionals to mover around your targets while still being able to fire at them. Also, get accustomed to disabling flight assist for short periods of time to flip yourself around while still moving in your original direction. Maneuvers like these can be tricky but once you've mastered them you can do a lot more.
As for your issues with matchmaking, some people get in quickly, other people have issues. I haven't been able to figure out what causes the disparity.
It all depends on your skill with the individual control scheme. I've seen players with flight sticks wreck KB+M players and vice versa. I personally prefer the KB+M scheme but it's just a matter of preference.
CQC doesn't have a lot of players, this free weekend is hoping to change that, so the matchmaking will pit you against higher ranks to reduce queue times. It WILL however try to balance the teams to keep the average rank of both close to the same. Plus, I've seen plenty of high rank people who suck major ass at dogfighting. It's not so much about skill as it is playing longer than the other person to get a higher rank.
