Backing Away from Enemies
There's a lot of people that are disappointed that Strafe seems more focused on backing away from enemy mobs rather than rushing into them head-on or, well, strafing around them a lot.

Yes, it doesn't feel quite like an old-school shooter because of this. However, I think that's largely because the enemies are way faster than in classic FPS games. Doom monsters in particular were very slow, and you could easily run circles around them, with them only catching up to you if you got cornered. Strafe enemies move almost as quickly as you do -- they don't just sit there while you dance around them.

So while it is different, I think it still retains the general motto of the classic FPS: if you stop moving, you die. You're backing up now (or jumping over enemies) instead of moving laterally, but you're definitely not crouching behind chest-high walls and waiting for enemies to pop out of cover like you would in a modern shooter. You still have pressure on you all the time and quick movement is crucial.

I think Strafe deserves some credit for that, at least.

Backing up also is only a really good strategy in claustrophobic halls of Icarus, after that, with the shifts in the environment and enemies, your tactics have to come around a bit more.

They move pretty slowly if you're Strafe Jumping.

You can literally RUN CIRCLES around them.

I think the gripe originates from the first zone being so damn claustrophobic where it isn't easy or safe to Strafe Jump around a pack of enemies. Zone 2 and onward won't let you get away with just backpedaling and shooting. You'll start facing enemies that have so much health you'll run out of room. You have to juke them around the arena and chip them to death.

That's when it gets REAL good.

I think bunny hopping should be taught in the tutorial because you really do run circles around enemies and have a lot of action, dodging, and run-and-gun feel if you keep bunny hopping around blasting enemies away.

Walking backwards always ends up in me taking damaged from behind. I think things spawn behind you, even when you think you have cleared the area. So annoying. That with the lack of health means I get tapped away slowly and die from being backstabbed.

It's actually because monster closets behind you are opening.

As you progress forward, like say, get near a keycard... The levels are generated so that you'll have to backtrack, and certain triggers open up those monster closets..

It's annoying to be surprised, but get into the habit of checking your 6 often and you'll do fine.

Zone 2 is quite annoying. Enemies can literally drop in behind you without making a sound.
