Avoid All PWE Games
I used to play one years ago called Heroes of the Three Kingdoms (HOTK for short). It was a pretty fun MMO based on the Three-Kingdoms era of China. Like all Perfect World Entertainment games, it was heavily pay-to-win. Long story short, I played for almost a year and spent over $1000 on it. PWE then ran a really nice sale with big discounts, so of course I spent more, as well as many others.

Not even a week later, they announced they were shutting the game down. Everyone was reimbursed 25% of their total spendings in the form of Zen (PWE's real-cash currency) so they could get addicted to another game, but not have nearly enough to be good. To this day, I still have $250 worth of Zen sitting in a PWE account that I will never use again, because all their MMOs look like generic WoW clones.

They purposely put a sale up with better discounts than they've ever given before, conveniently a week before they shut the game down. Even people who didn't pay at all or very often took advantage of these deals of course. But PWE already knew the game was going down, and they were making this amazing sale to take as much of our money as they could, before they refunded 25% of it back a week later in the form of their premium currency. They are shady as hell, and I personally would recommend avoiding this company like the plague.

In fact, avoid every Chinese gaming company, because they are all about crap quality games that push PvP hardcore, while charging insane prices for items you need to make another item you need to finally make the real item you want. R2 (Reality Squared), Tencent, PWE, Nexon, all of them are scam artists. King is horrible too, but they aren't Chinese, they're Swedish (and a subsidiary of Blizzard-Activision!)

Sad but true.

It's ashame because at it's launch, Neverwinter was an amazing game. Very well balanced, incredible pvp with minimal pay to win elements, all of which any very hardcore player could earn for free.. But yea didnt take long for PWE to corrupt it and make it ULTRA pay to win and insanely unbalanced if you cared to pvp at all.

We as consumers just need to boycott horrible companies like this and support awesome ones who make amazingly successful f2p games without making them pay to win (EG: Valve).

So yea valve.. make an mmo.

True dat, don't forget STO too, no PVP at all, that stupid lockboxes, and horrible, horrible costumer service.

They should burn in hell for what they did to STO.

I have to agree with you there. Having tried literally all pwe games...they really destroyed neverwinter and sto with their ultra-greedcore business model.

While I won't argue that PWE isn't greedy, they do deserve some credit for keeping games alive. Star Trek (and Champions, and probably some of their others) just plain wouldn't exist without PWE taking it over. Star Trek was dead broke and shutting down before PWE took it over and remonetized it. So yeah their method is probably preferable to the game not being available at all.

Those old games not being available at all would make room for new innovative games using same universes. I'd love to play a Star Trek based game. But not that greedy poor aged-out STO…

Also, while they may deserve credit for keeping certain games alive, maybe you should read my original post. They have no issues shutting a game down once it isn't making enough money. So hopefully people don't lose interest in STO, or they will pull a HOTK on it.
