interesting question about the steam launcher and nexon launcher
Ok so I was trying to test out all the classes to see how they play out after getting my healer to 20, plus so I could see what actual damage looks like lmao xD

So I was kinda bummed out that we're apparently limited to 3 characters slots in TOTAL, not just limited by servers, 3 total per account, which felt like a super bummer really.

Now, here's the general gist of what I'm trying to do or find out....
Supposedly the client itself has no login, the info is passed from the Nexon Launcher that they use to manage/download/launch their games, etc.
The version we download from steam has a special steam launcher app in the game folder that passes our credentials from Steam in a similar way, both of which require us to be logged in to different services before the game is launchedin order for the client to actually work...
Now, I have my old Nexon account cuz old vindictus player, so I figured this way I have technically two accounts,my steam account and nexon account,
BUT
I don't want to download and put another 10 gigs worth of the same game onto my computer soooooo I'm curious if I go to the nexon launcher and set the steam version of the game as the destination/install folder,
1: would it only download the necesary files that were not already there so it could launch the nexon version with my nexon account (best case scenario)
2: would it replace the files with different versions of the same filename for being potentially different even if only slightly (hope to avoid this completely if possible, since it would mean having to RE download the steam version on top of having downloaded the nexon one)
3: download entirely new set of files independent from the ones already installed, aka it would download the entire game for nexon version separately, possibly due to how the directory paths may be laid out differently (hope to avoid, but still not as bad as number 2 because replacing them would suck more than having two separete installs)

this way, if option 1 would be possible, I could be able to have all 5 classes playable from one install plus the addition of whatever few additional files (like actual launcher app) that would only really require me to close the game and launch the other version to access the two other classes (I don't dualbox, on a laptop that has ok specs but not build for hardcore gaming, plus my hand-eye coordination is not amazing enough to really handle solo dualboxing actively X__X)

comments, suggestions, concerns? Would like some input on the viability or likelyhood of the possible outcome

Set the Nexon location for the game where it would normally install. BUT! Make it a shortcut folder instead which links to the steam game. It should automatically run the steam one.

However I am not familiar with the Nexon launcher as I am super old school before they had a launcher. So I don't know if it will allow you to do this. You might have to google around.

Also it was hard to know what you want. Seperate the text a bit where you ask questions.

the nexon launcher is, in a way, similar to steam. Except it lists all the nexon games for you to download/install and play and is just for their nexon games.

What I'm hoping is that the game files downloaded and used by both are the exact same and no minute or tiny differences made to the steam ones so that then all i have to do is launch the game as I have been from steam to log into my steam version of the game, and launch the game from the nexon launcher application to log in to my nexon account version only using the same game install and not two separate installs taking advantage that I can select where the game will be installed to, and therefore, read from.

Sorry if it sounds confusing, I'm not the best at trying to relay a thought process to others.

I understand, trying to save disk space.
If my suggesion did not work then you'll have to look it up. This is a specific request that involves having two pathways accessing the same files without sharing the others login-credentials.

If you rather use the nexon launcher, it'd be easier. Just create an offical account with your steam one so you can switch between both on the Nexon launcher. However launching it on steam will always log onto the steam one no matter what.
Your issues would take a lot of effort to deal with as file sharing between two different applications can easily turn into a mess, try the simpiler options first.

If you are implying you wish to run two instances of an application at once with the same files on two different accounts on seperate launchers. This won't work as the other launcher will be detected as an intrusion + files in use and may cause your clients to crash without a 3rd party program.

that's the thing though, I'm 90% sure that the nexon launcher works the same way as steam does, where it will automatically log me in to my nexon account because just trying to launch the game directly from the launcher that is in the steam installed folder takes me to the nexon site, and launching it from the nexon site tells me to download the nexon launcher which should imply that hitting the play button on the nexon launcher will automatically log me in without my having to input a username or password the same way that i'm not asked when I hit the play button on steam.

Well to clear up any misunderstandings you should test the launcher first.
I've used the Aeria launcher, The SquareInc Launcher and also the Blizzard Launcher, all have the ability to "Log-off/change accounts" when clicking the cogwheel icon.

If you still want this, there is easy way to achieve it.

  1. Create directory where you want game to be installed
  2. Save this as .bat file in created directory:
    @echo off setlocal ENABLEEXTENSIONS setlocal ENABLEDELAYEDEXPANSION set CURRENT_PATH=%~dp0 set SUBPATH=icarus\appdata set REG_NAME="HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Steam App 442080" set KEY_NAME=InstallLocation for /F "usebackq skip=2 tokens=3*" %%A in (`REG QUERY %REG_NAME% /v %KEY_NAME% 2^>nul`) do set INSTALL_PATH=%%A %%B if not defined INSTALL_PATH set /p INSTALL_PATH="Paste install path of RoI on Steam: " set INSTALL_PATH=%INSTALL_PATH:"=% if %INSTALL_PATH:~-1% EQU \ SET INSTALL_PATH=%INSTALL_PATH:~0,-1% if %CURRENT_PATH:~-1% EQU \ SET CURRENT_PATH=%CURRENT_PATH:~0,-1% set CURRENT_PATH=%CURRENT_PATH%\%SUBPATH% mkdir "%CURRENT_PATH%\Bin32" 2>nul mkdir "%CURRENT_PATH%\Bin64" 2>nul type nul >> "%CURRENT_PATH%\Bin32\eTracer.exe" type nul >> "%CURRENT_PATH%\Bin32\nexon.dll" type nul >> "%CURRENT_PATH%\Bin32\nexon_api.dll" type nul >> "%CURRENT_PATH%\Bin32\nxsteam.exe" type nul >> "%CURRENT_PATH%\Bin32\nxsteamres.dll" type nul >> "%CURRENT_PATH%\Bin64\eTracer.exe" type nul >> "%CURRENT_PATH%\Bin64\nexon.dll" type nul >> "%CURRENT_PATH%\Bin64\nexon_api.dll" type nul >> "%CURRENT_PATH%\Bin64\nxsteam.exe" type nul >> "%CURRENT_PATH%\Bin64\nxsteamres.dll" for /d %%i in ("%INSTALL_PATH%\*") do mklink /d "%CURRENT_PATH%\%%~ni" "%%i" 1>nul 2>nul for /d %%i in ("%INSTALL_PATH%\Bin32\*") do mklink /d "%CURRENT_PATH%\Bin32\%%~ni" "%%i" 1>nul 2>nul for /d %%i in ("%INSTALL_PATH%\Bin64\*") do mklink /d "%CURRENT_PATH%\Bin64\%%~ni" "%%i" 1>nul 2>nul for %%i in ("%INSTALL_PATH%\Bin32\*") do mklink "%CURRENT_PATH%\Bin32\%%~nxi" "%%i" 1>nul 2>nul for %%i in ("%INSTALL_PATH%\Bin64\*") do mklink "%CURRENT_PATH%\Bin64\%%~nxi" "%%i" 1>nul 2>nul
  3. Run this .bat file as administrator.
  4. Install game through Nexon launcher to directory previously created. Nexon will add another subfolder, "icarus". Don't worry, it will work fine.
  5. Let Nexon verify files and play the game. :)

Just tested it again to make sure it works.
  1. installed on steam
  2. ran on steam
  3. installed on nexon
  4. ran on nexon
  5. positively verified all files on steam
So you can be sure everything works as it should. Nexon install weights 9,88MB. :)

Just keep in mind that running Nexon launcher and Steam may cause some problem if both try to update the game at the same time.

Umm, it would work flawlessly with games using Steam as first-download-only platform. But RoI uses it as patching platform too (and anti-cheat I think).

Since you can't disable auto-update on Steam, do it in Nexon launcher. Let Steam patch the game and later "repair installation" in Nexon.
