Silverfall

9$ game should be freeware ?.
I remember playing this game when it was released, enjoyed it a lot but it
had some issues with certain builds being completely broken and overpowered.
Graphically it was ok, despite the map and quest-directions lacking.

But now when technology has moved forward and PC-screens has gotten bigger,
it seems this game is still stick in low-res like many other games on steam from
this era and this type of games.

So i'm thinking. Either these games should be updated/enhanced to fit todays
PC-sceens ov 1080p minimum, or they should be freeware because any support
that used to be available, has siezed to exist.

I've been very tempted in buying many of these old style games,
and then a read that they're no compatible with todays resolutions.

I have no problems except somewhat small text at 3kx2k resolution on my Windows 10 tablet. Silverfall looks quite good and crisp — a little like a cross between Borderlands and the new Marvel What If…? style animation, which I definitely like. The controls could be better, but it might just be the lack of horsepower on the tablet at high res.

Also, I used the font rename technique listed in some other steam post, but it didn’t seem to help a lot. Overall it works fine. I never played this back in the day, so I’m happy to have another ARPG to dig into.

You are talking about hundreds, if not thousands, of games that would suddenly qualify to be freeware. According to this type of thinking, every year hundreds of games should be mothballed or declared free. Nah, I don't think that's going to happen.

A lot of people can still play the old games on whatever rig they've got. Just because some people have trouble getting them to work, or some people have graphic or fps issues does not mean Steam should remove the games from their offerings or make them freeware. There are so very many combinations of parts that any given computer can have that might cause problems on even the newest games that no developer can make a game compatible for every single player out there.

During sales, the prices of these older games often goes quite low (some go on sale for 75% or 90% off during the bigger sales), so they are worth the small amount that you pay. We all love free stuff, but I don't think Steam or the developers are going to make their games freeware.

You don't see clothing stores or bookstores or grocery stores putting old stuff out with signs saying "free". They put the stuff on sale and anything left over is sold at deep discount to retailers that specialize in discount product marketing, like day-old bread stores, and thrift store chains, dollar stores and what-not.

Window mode seems to be the best way to deal with res issues. Every time I go full screen on any non-GoG game, all my browsers get squashed 🤣

But yeah, expecting freeware is a bit cringe.

Support your devs and you might get remakes, esp with buzz and kickstarters. The Bard’s Tale trilogy comes to mind (I’m not gonna even mention D2R, er lol oops…)

Please don't put this game in a freeware category. Are you that seriously strapped for cash that $9 or less is too much to pay for having hours of fun?

I picked this up in the summer sale, I think it was around $2.87 or $3.80 I figured cant go wrong that under $5 so I got it. I played it back in the day too around 2007 when it released. It was great in its day. I remember getting far but never finished it as I stopped playing as I lost interest in the silent story, and played other games like NFS Hot Pursuit etc

The game is around 18 hours+ to finish, depending how good you are probably longer I think
