If people try it and decide they want to advance to a more complex sim, they can buy X-Plane, FSX:SE or some other flight sim product that provides a fuller flight sim experience (but also a lot more complexity and jargon to learn), and build up the platform with addons to suit your interests. I've been a flight simmer for several years and I never seem to stop learning or having new experiences, so I think it's really worth pursuing if you enjoy the genre (some people are even inspired to get a real pilot's license).
Of course DTG would rather you buy their full flight simulator product but it's not available yet, and there's no ETA given for the SDK, so a wide variety of addons for that product will not be around for some time (and even then only if the platform gets good sales and is able to attract developers).
Now you can ask why not just skip over this and buy FSX:SE or X-Plane in the first place? I started with FSX just as many people did, and you can start that way and learn as you go by doing Google search and watching YouTube vids, and also FSX has a flight school (somewhat bugged and frustrating but the content is quite good overall) and a lot of other documentation. I was very determined though and had to put many many hours into learning about aviation and also lots of time with tweaks and setting up controls and other skills in learning just how to operate the sim. I could see how many people might get discouraged, so the idea of an entry level sim doesn't seem like a terrible idea, but if you are thinking about addons already then you might want to start looking at some other sims. Beware though, some of us end up spending thousands of dollars on addons, it's like an addiction. ;-)

Flight School has quite a lot of original content not found in FSX, so they are different products. I have and enjoy both. FSX is a good sim, but also 10 years old, 32 bit and unmaintained, so it's not surprising that it's cheap. I think both products have good value overall.
The best Add-Ons for Flight School; I think are, new Class of Aircraft Training.
If DTG wants to give people (old and new), a reason to not only get this title but keep it, they need to release single Aircraft that has a focus on a specific skill set.
They have 2 GA aircraft to teach Basic flight
They will have 1 Aircraft to teach Twin-Prop
They now need to add 1 Glider with courses
They could follow that with a Water Landing Aircraft training course
They should follow that with 1 Commercial Aircraft with extra training to earn CPL & ATPL.
They could follow that with 1 basic Helicopter with lessons.
And just for fun, add 1 Ultalight with some fun missions
The player can just buy the Add-on they want and all scoring credits should transfer to Flight Si
DTG made the mistake of stating that Flight Sc will be released with 2 Aircraft with a 3rd to follow and then it will be done.
There is potential to add value to Flight Sc. It is this short-sighted mentality that keeps me from buying this title and possibly other people as well.
if so then anything is possible
Best we can do is hope they change their minds and not only patch but improve Flight Sc. Either way, I do not see DTG giving any kind of discount.
Those of you who enjoyed Flight School and are ready for more features should definitely get FSX:Steam while it is on sale. I think I got mine at 90% off but 75% off is a fantastic deal as well. Plus the lessons are better and there is an in-game library for stuff that FSc didn't explain well, such as VOR.
My thinking is, as long as they have a Flight School, and as bad as it seems to be, they can improve it and make it useful for more than just GA aircraft, while leaving the Flight Simulator for the real world flying, for those that have no interest in training or for those finished with the training they needed.
For me, I like to fly the Beechcraft Baron 58 in FSX. I'm not sure what Flight School can teach me, as it is. I have also passed the Glider courses in FSX, Flew Water Landing Aircraft in a few missions as well. I would like Commercial Aircraft training and I guess Helicopter Training could be interesting.
Basically, I see a way to turn their lemon into lemonaid ;-)
well said i take your point and will wait for dtg full sim before spending even more dosh on add ons
