Useless locations?

After you have the airship, you can find some locations, like for example Moolbeld Ruins, Nameless Village, or Somber Swamp and so on.
What's the purpose of those locations? I mean, there's nothing special in the Nameless Village, one man in Swamp with nothing at all, and Moolbeld Ruins is just few bosses without reward?

Those areas are used in the character sub-quests towards the end of the game.

Yup, and after finally having finished all achievements for this game, I still have no idea what Klimmloch is all about, nor those empty snowy prairies. Oh, that old toy builder, too :(

The toy builder is probably mean to be Santa Claus, since the world is all snow.
I think the plains and other areas with only one character are an hommage to old jrpg.
Nameless Village is used for a sidequest
The Ruins are there for killing bosses again.
