Endgame/Sidequests Discussion & Questions (Probably Spoilers!)
So I finished each character's sidequest, beat the Ruler of Time on top of Laniff Ruins, but I still haven't figured out what the purpose of the Somber Swamp is or what the purpose of Klimmloch is. Also not really sure what all the fields/prairies across the map are there for.

Are there any other side quests besides each character's and getting the locked chests?

Also, where can I find a "Lightning Down?" Life II on Setsuna would be nice to get.

Lastly, has anyone found anything nearly as overpowered as Battlecry + Luminaire + Permanence (Endir, Setsuna, Aeterna) + momentum? You can literally kill the Ruler of Time before he gets more than a turn or two in once his physical evasion falls off by just auto-attacking with this. For those who don't know what this combo does, you get every status up effect in the game + auto-revive + near full heal + it lasts for a long time. If you get enough + ATB you literally have zero wait between actions so you can just spam attacks with Endir and Aeterna over and over without anyone else getting a turn in. Add a bunch of attack up and crit supports to Endir and Aeterna and maybe fix a stun bit and stop bit to Aeterna for enemies/bosses that aren't immune and the game is instantly broken.

Kind of want to try playing through again with a more difficult party, as those three just made everything fall over with zero chance of dying.

Oh, forgot to mention I also killed the Schwartzstorm (ride the boat in Serendale to fight it)

So there are side quests? Then whaat are people saying there aren't any for? Clearly haven't finished it.

I don't remember anyone saying there were no sidequest (at least not people who actually played the game), the criticism from JP import players and reviewers was more along the line there is very little side content, which is true and the sidequests are very very short.

I haven't got there yet, but from what I know there's in total 1 sidequest for each character, 3 optional ruins (essentially copypasta from a story dungeon) and 1 secret/endgame boss.

Edit: @OP
Looking at the jp wiki, there's nothing to do with that swamp

Name of the swamp is ナミダ沼 and the only mention is in the regions list, noting there's no chest/monster in that area.
And if I'm not mistaken on the JP names of those prairies, that seems to be the same, nothing of note.

I remember chrono trigger's side-quests to be very short also. They're mimicking it too well lol.

Thanks. Then yeah, looks like I did all the sidequests and beat the boss on "super-hard". I'd say this game could have been a lot harder, but I guess it probably just depends on what party you're using. Endir + Setsuna + Aeterna break the game with Battlecry + Luminaire + Permanence.

How and where do I get a "Fan Maple Root" for Permanance? I hate this awful ability farming system. I've spent hours upon hours backtracking through all the zones trying to kill every enemy in the game again in different ways looking for materials I didn't get, and I'm still missing like half the abilities. =/

Sorry, I have no idea. If it makes you feel any better I still have no idea where to get "Lightning Down" for Life 2.

Maybe I got it randomly when killing things using Grand Cross. During the mid-late game I got in the habit of just killing nearly everything I could with every possible kill effect possible.

Let me check my monster list and see if I can find who dropped the fan maple root for you though, one sec.

It's from "Uppa" under "furred monsters" says found near Fridgling Caves. Obtained by time killing one.

Sorry I meant using "Coup de Grace" since if you momentum it you'll get light + shadow + time + link + debuff + overkill + momentum kill (not sure if the debuff is because I have stun bit and paralyze bit on Aeterna)

Thanks for the assistance. BTW, I found this resource. Its not 100% yet, but its something. Hopefully it helps some people: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12YpYYSSVLvBvVCpvbtA1hKUpSu6x8GQQlqRwu7jzwPM/edit#gid=792563078

Whoa, I need Coup De Grace. I don't have any combos that do Time or Debuff. Debuff kills in particular have been a pain to consistently and easily farm. I pretty much used Endir/Setsuna/Aeterna the whole game, and went back through with other party members to pick up ice/fire damage kills, but the triple tech I have on my main party is just light/shadow so I missed out on time/debuff kills, and buffing enchrono on everyone for every battle in the game is beyond tedious.

Sorry, it only adds debuff because Aeterna attacks a million times during it and I have the stun/paralysis bits on her (which a surprising number of bosses are vulnerable to).

So yeah, Coup de Grace will get you momentum + light + shadow + time + momentum + overkill + link kill + debuff kill typically.

I also use the Momentum blade on Endir instead of Rainbow since it ups enemy drops (can get it from a chest in the developer island to the NW of the world map). I'm not sure fully powered how much worse it is than Rainbow, but things die so fast that the useful effects on things like Momentum and Amadeus more than make up for any stat losses imo.

I may start a new game and see what the game is like in a party without Endir and Setsuna.

edit: Thanks, that spreadsheet is helpful. Think I'm about to put this game down for a little while though, maybe when I come back to it that'd be nice to grab a few of the spiritnite combos I was curious about trying.

Overall I thought this game was great, but the flux/talisman system was bland and having to find obscure ways to kill things to unlock skills was also sort of meh. I didn't even get to try half the cool support spiritnite because by the time I could try and figure out where to get the items the game was already trivial.
