Can you rename the characters?

I am sure some of us renamed all the characters to our friends' names back in the old final fantasy days.

Is it true here?

Yes, all of the characters that I encountered so far (who are able to join your party) were able to be renamed, including Setsuna.

Late reply, but yes, when you first meet them you get a message asking if you want to change their name right before they introduce themselves.
