I almost never do this in multiplayer because Vader is needed doing other, more important things.

Indeed, I only do it once in multiplayer. Takes too much time.

What happens when you train a jedi?
I have never succeeded in changing any attribute solely by training.

Trained-Jedi acts in similar fashion to Palpatine/Vader/Luke when on mission/against mission (stats are going up, is more efficient and auto-blocks/duels other force users) it's something between minor and major character after training (can still die, but is definitely more efficient). I remember when Noval Garaint became sith knight. He was pretty intimidating and capable to duel Luke at some point.

Well, I did it after countless games without even trying.
The strange thing is, some characters stop improving after a while.

Why is that?

I believe it's because they need Jedi Training mission to achieve higher Force level status (so their skill will raise after each mission to the point when you need to train them to allow them to raise their stats again) but I'm not 100& sure about that - poor Jedi's (usually "research type" characters) tend to reach higher rank in Jedi Force level quicker via mission training than more potent force users (for example Adar Tallon stats in ESP and CBT jump by 10 points each and he achieves rank "Jedi Student" after one training while others remain "Trainee" with an inspiring +40 boost on ESP and CBT stats. Usually characters like Borsk Felya (prolly mispelled his name but oh well) or Needa make superb all-around Jedi's/Siths while chars like Garm Bel Iblis or Noval Garaint become killing machines after few decent trainings. Research-type Jedi's can still be useful (as force user always blocks other force user mission and tries to confronts him).
