Neutral Planet Problems
So...I've come to a weird thing...I can't flip neutral planets. When I go to initiate a mission, I only get "Espionage." Is there something I'm not doing? Oh, by the way, no defenses icon is visible...

There are basically two types of "neutral" planets. Core worlds (which are already discovered and have some kind of "affiliation bar" underneath) and rim Worlds which are not discovered (most of them do not have this "affiliation bar" underneath). You have to land troops on those rim worlds without the bar. All you can do is do espionage missions on those rim worlds without that bar. You can initiate diplomacy missions only on neutral worlds which have the bar underneath

When starting out, you look for the netural planets within the core systems that favour your faction more. So the diamond will be fuller if they are more friendly to the faction you are playing.

You then send your diplomats off to turn them to join you. Depending on that diplos stats, it can be anything from 8-100 days(if they really suck!) so stick to using the key people who have that skill.

Sometimes when one planet turns, others will join you also, or popularity will increase on other planets.

Outer Rim planets that dont have any facilities on them (like a mine) or any kind of population will just be an empty planet, thats where you drop a troop unit from a ship that MUST be in orbit above. Once its yours, you can move troops around freely without ships.

Cool, thanks for the help. I vwas wondering what I was doing wrong. It kinda shows how long it's been since I played it...

diplomacy or 6+ troops to land on the planet but you will take the smuggling penalty when taking a planet by force
