MasterVodo's Strategy Guide.
Hello. I used to play this game when it came out ALOT unil 1999 and was ranked one of the top players in the world. I created a strategy guide at the time... and a quick search found that it is still out there, lying dusty and forgotten on the internet.

Take it for what you will.

Back in the day - Case's Ladder was the place you went to in order to be ranked. That page is still up! Made it to #2 at one point. Never could beat Clyde.

Ah. Memories.

Wow, nostalgia :)
I beat that Clyde once (some 17h game total), but never you man. Ranked #5 at some point on that ladder.

It's pretty amazing that so many years later, the same people are on steam reading this.

I don't play rebellion any more, of course. And, I don't really feel nostalgic enough to even pay the $3 to get it again. But, I got my little glow feeling with these comments! Awesome!

I remember you too! Add me on Steam right now. We absolutely MUST play. :)
I disagree with several points you brought up.

Vader should not be inciting uprisings
In regards to Vader being an excellent choice for incite uprisings missions, that's a good way to get him captured. A decent player will do counter espionage on his own planets, 24/7, like you said. If he sees Vader there, he will use everything he has to capture him. I noticed it takes 4-5 guys to capture Vader.

Veers sucks at foiling missions
I also disagree with assigning Veers as a general. Veers has an awful espionage rating, so he's not very good at foiling missions. So, you can expect all of your troops (or shield generators) to be easily sabotaged by your opponent. You really don't need war droids or dark troopers, at all. I usually send Veers to subdue uprisings or incite uprisings, and that's pretty much it.

Dealing with the rebel planet
There is a much better way to deal with the "rebel planet(s)" instead of sending all of your diplomats there. You just remove all troops but one, which will cause an uprising. Then, you send whatever high leadership personnel you have in the area to subdue the uprising. Each successful subdue uprising mission adds a little bit of popular support in your favor. When the mission is complete, you sometimes don't even need to do a touch up with a diplomatic mission, as the garrison requirement immediately becomes 0. Here's a video where it takes me just two days to make the planet an Imperial supported planet (no garrison requirement) without using long diplomatic missions.

You don't need to have a ton of troops
Your tip about making sure to have enough troops to avoid an uprising ONLY applies when you play as the rebellion. The subdue uprising strategy seems to work with the Imperial side only. With the rebels, yes, it is better to make sure that you have at least 6 (surviving) troops at the end of the battle, to ensure that there is no uprising. You then have to do diplomacy on the planet until it supports you. However, when playing as the Empire, you're going to intentionally remove all but one troop in order to cause an uprising, that way, you can subdue it in order to move popular support in your favor faster.

Blow up mines, not refineries
Mines generate raw materials, which then get refined into refined minerals, which are used to build and train absolutely everything in the game. If no raw materials are coming in, it's not that big a deal if your opponent has refineries, there's nothing to refine. Plus, it lowers your opponent's maintenance, as each mine and refinery pair gives 50 maintenance points.

Oh wow! So many names I remember from the day. Clydes was always the player to beat!

Nice video Praetor. Learned a lot about the game because of it.
