Bizarre visual issues

Hi all,

Today I reinstalled for the first time in a long time and tried to play.

If I load through Steam, the game only loads in windowed mode, and is very small.

If I load by clicking on REBEXE, the game loads full screen, but all of the images/icons are flipped (vertically mostly) for some reason, and none of the menus work appropriately, particularly the messages menu. Some colors are off, too (red showing up as blue). This image flipping doesn't seem to be an issue when the game loads in windowed mode, strangely.

Has this come up for anyone else? Any fixes?

I have the same problems with the steam version, but the gog version do work.

If you right click the REBEXE and go in compatibility setting make sure there is nothing checked off, I tried toggling the Reduce color mode and it inverted the icons...
I was trying to fix the battles/cant see laser and most ship are pinkish

Ok, an update:

I checked the compatibility tab, nothing was checked.

I ran the compatibility troubleshooter a few times, no changes, the visual issues are still happening as described above.

Changing the color options produces no change.

I changed all other settings one by one, no change, still the same issues as described above.

Super frustrating.

What is even more frustrating is that Steam will do absolutely nothing about it - despite being the retailer, they are not interested in providing support.

i have this problem with pink ships please help
