STAR WARS™ Rebellion

STAR WARS™ Rebellion

Rebellion on Steam no longer loading
I apologize if I'm reposting a topic but I've looked through the forums and can't quite find an exact answer to my issue.

Up until about 2 months ago, Rebellion was loading up on my Windows 7 laptop just fine through steam. Now, when I go into Steam and click play, I get a little pop up saying that Rebellion is starting but then nothing. It doesn't load up in a separate window, it doesn't load up in full screen, it's almost like the program locks up. If I close out steam then go back in, I get an error saying that there is already a game loaded.

I'm not sure if it is my resolution setting or something else. Any suggestions?

Have you tried reinstalling or checking the game files via the Steam app?

Yes, uninstalled, reinstalled, checked game files. several times. It flickers to new screen resolution but then no game. Its running in the background but no window opens.

I'm having the exactly the same issue.
Try running the .exe and not the shortcut or launching through steam...

...Steam\SteamApps\common\Star Wars - Rebellion\rebexe.exe

I'm having this exact issue. Game was working fine until about two months ago. Now when I try to load it, the screen resolution changes, but no game. I've tried loading the .exe I've uninstalled and reinstalled, and rebooted multiple times. Any other fix ideas?

I had the same issue, and found this thread trying to find a solution. I figured a recent Windows Update was what did it. What worked for me was going to the rebexe.exe file - located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Star Wars - Rebellion for those who dont change defaults - and right clicking, choose Properties, hit the compatibility tab, and run it in Windows 98/Me mode. Game fired right up then. Good luck all.

Had exactly the same issue - along with the game still showing as 'Running' even though it wasn't.
Even after ending the reb.exe process under task manager, restarting Steam the game still showed as 'running'.
The weirdest thing was the game showing up in my Windows Games folder (along with Mahjong, Solitaire et al).
Most bizzarre.
Solution found tho, thanks to Predator 42 :steamhappy:

Predator 42,

You are my hero.

Seriously, you're the best.

(One thing: After implementing this fix, I have to launch from steam instead of straight from the .exe The .exe demands a CD once you switch to Windows 98)

We live to serve, y'all :) Hope you all are enjoying as much as I do. Since the AI sucked so bad, I am in the middle of a self-challenge game: I pretended that the Alliance leadership was stupid and timid and so at the beginning of the game, I destroyed all mines, refineries, and factories in the inner sphere - scorched earth type policy. It left my resources in the negatives, and what little fleet and armies I started with were getting destroyed due to lack of maintenance. It made sending diplomats to those tiny little rim planets to get their 1 or 2 mines much more important than it usually was, and since I had no fleet or ability to build more, it made the Empire that much more terrifying - they actually eventually got my Headquarters - sabotaged it, actually. Didn't know that could happen.

I'm on turn 2700 or so I think, and now have the ability to resist. I've found two Alliance traitors so far, one a jedi trainee even, and I suspect more exist, due to my "losing". The amount of capital ships they've built during this time is impressive, and is making for some good battles. AI is still dumb as rocks, but man this game is fun :)

Finally got mine to work and it was rather simple. First off, I took the advice of going into the actual folder where Rebel.exe was located and tried playing as an administrator. It would load, but as a small box in the middle of the screen. To fix this, I went to my laptop's desktop and used right click. I went into my graphics options/settings. I made sure that the setting to display full screen was set. I also went in and made sure to reset my graphics to the integrated graphics setting. It didn't make a difference if I had 32 or 64 bit set, the game still loaded up in full screen through both the direct rebel.exe command and through the steam launcher.
