Weird. Never got this error. Did it finish the installation process? Try launching it again. If that doesn't work, reinstall it and make sure that the installer has full permissions.

downloaded and did it three times (even took steam out and reloaded it). I was able to download a free copy of SW-R from an English abandonware site and am running that. Sent ticket in to help at steam.. no response yet. I running a 64bit 6 gigabite 4 year old computer but the product page says it should work.

lol wait what? You got the game from some abandonware site, and you're complaining because it doesn't work with steam? If you sat and thought about that for a second, I'm sure even you would be able to reason out the answer to your question.

Just buy the full game. It's 5 bucks well spent.

Try launching it again. Steam does some stuff the first time you launch it so make sure it has full permissions. When in doubt, get it on GOG.

This game needs NOTHING. DL it, play, steam already patched it up last year, any issues are on YOUR end, not steams, not the publishers.

Okay, did anyone actually read what he posted? The Steam version wasn't working for him, so he downloaded it from a file sharing site. Steam, as per their usual customer disservice, hasn't responded to him.

The only reason the steam version wouldn't work is on his end, steam already fixed it noob

You need to keep your opinion to yourself StarNate.

And to provide a somewhat constructive answer. Please make sure that you are installing the game on your c:. Rebellion is an older game and has issues with different drive letters.

thanks, its up and running now.....still one of the greatest 4X games ever.
bummer you cannot find graphics mods anywhere (I thought there were
several). Bought this originally when it first came out but stopped playing
it when the disc deteriorated. Then set it up finally to work the night we
saw Rogue 1 and I can a full campaign from then on....still great!

Can you tell us the source of the game i.e. steam, gog, original disc..., your system specs and the install location you chose?
eric-belair Feb 19, 2017 @ 10:33am
Steam, install location is the default option (C:/programfiles under steam) and Windows 10 OS,
AMD A6-3650 APU with Radeon HD graphics 2.6 GHZ If you need more specs just ask for something specific and i really appreciate your help with this! You a boss
