The gameplay is what made this game in the first place, and still makes it a great game today.
Shiny graphics would be welcome tho.
Such a classic game that introduced me to so many important things in the world of pcs. I would pay full price for a remastered high res version.
If you could select Clone War era you can have the CIS vs Republic.
I'd LOVE to see a KOTOR era Rebellion game. Sith get the Star Forge (rather than Death Star). Both sides would get multiple Force sensitive characters.
Imagine a First Order with fully functional Starkiller Base. Blow up an entire sector rather than just one planet at a time like the Death Star.
The slow response times were not a bug, but a feature. One you could reduce with a good Admiral for minor tactical advantage (enemy ships experienced these delays too).
All ships had a delay added before they began to act on orders. Assigning an Admiral to the fleet reduced this delay- with the reduction being greater the higher the Admiral's Leadership skill...
Yet another feature of the game you won't really know about unless you read the manual.
(Note: Combat Rating isn't representative of high-level strategic thinking, which is Leadership: it's ability with a blaster/lightsaber basically. It does enhance chances of capturing or killing enemy agents after ships/troops detect them, but has no impact on space battles or land combat...)
